Wycombe Wanderers v Barnsley: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Automatic promotion has become a realistic target for Wycombe Wanderers, who have shown it is possible to compete with the third tier’s heavyweight clubs.

The Chairboys have not been outside of the top three for the last three months although they were frustrated at the weekend when drawing 0-0 at home to struggling Northampton.

Tuesday’s opponents Barnsley have reached the playoffs in each of the last two seasons and are on course for another extended season.

However, they slipped from fifth to sixth after a below par performance in Saturday’s 1-0 loss at home to Stevenage.

Wycombe Wanderers v Barnsley betting tips and predictions

Barnsley draw no bet - 13/8

Barnsley have sustained back-to-back losses but they haven’t lost three in a row at any point of the season and can show their quality by defeating Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

The festive period was a fruitful time for the Tykes, who gathered a maximum 12 points from a hectic 10 days.

More recently Barnsley have suffered reverses away to Bristol Rovers (1-3) and at home to Stevenage (0-1) to leave themselves a point inside the playoff places.

Darrell Clarke’s side were well below their best in Saturday’s loss to Stevenage where they struggled to create chances against a physical, well-organised opposition.

Poor home results have held back the Yorkshire side, but they have generally excelled on their travels and head to Wycombe in search of a ninth away league win of the campaign.

Wycombe have performed well above outside expectations and their 55-point tally is only ten fewer than the 65-point mark reached over the whole of last season.

However, they have won only one of their last four league games and were strangely subdued at the weekend when labouring to a goalless draw against Northampton.

Caretaker Wycombe boss Sam Grace might be looking forward to a different type of contest against Barnsley, who will be more prepared than Northampton to engage in an attacking style of football.

However, the Chairboys have not won any of their last three home league games and they might suffer a setback against a dangerous Barnsley side anxious to get their promotion push back on track.

Davis Keillor-Dunn to score anytime - 13/5

Barnsley recruited well in last summer’s transfer window and must be especially delighted by the impact of David Keillor-Dunn, who quickly became a key player after his switch from Mansfield.

Keillor-Dunn played a key role in Mansfield’s promotion from League Two - scoring 22 goals - and has seamlessly adapted to third tier football.

The 27-year-old is an excellent finisher so it is no great surprise to see that his goal tally (nine) is outstripping his xG (6.79).

Keillor-Dunn netted in each of Barnsley’s four wins between December 26th and January 4th and his touch of class could make the difference against Wycombe.

Over 2.5 goals - 17/20

Wycombe played out a second goalless draw of the campaign on Saturday but are usually involved in entertaining, high-scoring games and will be looking forward to an open contest against a Barnsley side equally committed to attacking football.

A lively encounter is on the cards between the division’s highest scorers and a potent Barnsley side who have netted eight goals across their last four road trips.

There should be plenty of action at both ends, making a wager on over 2.5 goals worthwhile at 17/20.
