Wrexham v Wolves Prediction: 9/4 Armstrong can add to his tally

Wolves have climbed into the Championship’s automatic promotion places and will have top spot in their sights when taking on Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

Both clubs face a quick turnaround for their early afternoon encounter which commences less than three days after their engagements on Wednesday evening.

But the kick-off time presents an opportunity for Wolves, who know that a win would see them swap places with leaders Middlesbrough for at least a couple of hours.

Wolves passed a tricky midweek test away to Bristol City thanks to a late double from substitute Sam Neave, who transformed a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 success.

Cesar Peixoto’s side have won their last three Championship games and know that another victory guarantees the retention of a top-two place over the duration of the November international break.

Wrexham’s progress has been mixed, although they approach this contest in high spirits after an eye-catching 2-0 midweek triumph at home to Middlesbrough.

The victory was Wrexham’s fourth in 14 Championship games and took them to 16th - just a point outside the top half and six short of the play-off positions.

Wrexham v Wolves Prediction

Best Bet: Wolves to win @ 6/5

Wolves reaped the rewards from a vibrant second-half performance in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory at Bristol City, and their impressive fitness levels could come to the fore against Wrexham.

Two-game weeks are an occupational hazard for Championship clubs, but they are less of an issue for those with the bigger squads.

And Wolves seem to be better equipped than most, as they showed in their midweek fixture with several of their substitutes making important contributions.

Newcastle United-loanee Neave hogged the headlines with his two goals, but Wolves were also able to bring on Rodrigo Gomes, Mateus Mane and Tommy Doyle - all former Premier League players, who would be starters for the majority of second-tier sides.

While Wolves had to come from behind at Ashton Gate, Wrexham gave a more complete performance in their 2-0 triumph over Middlesbrough.

But the Red Dragons expended a lot of energy against a Boro side which harvested a 62 per cent share of possession.

And there could be question marks over the fitness of some of their players, including George Thomason and Sam Cleworth, who made their first starts since September and August respectively.

Wrexham have been hampered by a lot of injury issues and are delighted to have Thomason and Cleworth back in the fold.

But the Welsh club could have done without having to play two matches in quick succession and they might be exposed by one of the division’s form teams.

Alternative Bet: Adam Armstrong to score anytime @ 9/4

Adam Armstrong is a proven striker in the Championship and poses a huge threat to Wrexham, having rediscovered his scoring touch.

The 29-year-old netted in the wins at home to Watford (1-0) and Cardiff City (3-0) and can notch in north Wales as well.

Wrexham v Wolves Bet Builder Tip

  • Adam Armstrong 1+ shots on target

  • Under 4 goals

  • George Thomason to be booked

    Pays 27/4

Wolves are having to get through a period without high-profile striker, Raul Jimenez, who is sidelined with a knee injury.

But they have good attacking options, including midweek match-winner Neave, seven-goal top scorer Fer Lopez and the ever reliable Armstrong.

The biggest threat of the three may come from Armstrong, who can hit the target in a fairly low-scoring success.

Wrexham’s squad is stretched so they may have to persist with many of the midweek starters, including tough tackling midfielder Thomason, who may collect his first caution of the campaign.
