Wolves v Southampton: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Rock-bottom Wolves and the team immediately above them, Southampton, meet in a critical showdown at Molineux in the Premier League on Saturday.

Wolves are one of only two teams left still searching for a first league win of the season after Saints broke their duck by beating Everton last weekend.

Wolves v Southampton betting tips and predictions

Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score - 20/21

Expect to hear the term 'six-pointer' liberally thrown about going into the Molineux meeting of the Premier League's bottom two clubs.

With three draws, seven losses, and no wins from their opening ten games, Gary O'Neil's Wolves find themselves propping up the table by three points.

Southampton have had one more defeat but also one more win courtesy of Saturday's hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Everton.

That means the Hampshire club are on four points and feeling more confident than they did a week ago.

This is a major match-up for both clubs, a game neither will want to lose but with gaps starting to open up in the bottom eight or so in the table, it's also a match both will want to win.

The evidence of games involving Wolves at home is that there will be plenty of chances coughed up - probably at both ends - and this is a game that should feature goals.

It's no surprise that these two find themselves in the bottom five for shots conceded, as they are simply far too open.

Southampton, having shipped 19 goals compared to Wolves' 27, are arguably getting away with more, but eight defeats suggests they aren't getting away with much.

Wolves' matches are averaging a division-high 4.1 goals, while at home, they have been involved in five league games which have produced 21 goals in total.

Chelsea hit them for six and they have conceded exactly two in subsequent visits from Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

The 2-2 draw with Palace was insanely entertaining given the pressure on both camps and the worry for Wolves is that the Eagles racked up 19 efforts on goal.

Calling the winner of this game isn't easy though Wolves don't appear much in the way of value at 19/20. Expecting mistakes, tension and goals looks a lot more sensible.

Kyle Walker-Peters Over 0.5 Shots on Target - 4/1

Russell Martin's five-man defence looked pretty solid against Everton last week, with Aaron Ramsdale and the Saints able to celebrate their first clean sheet of the campaign.

Walker-Peters, for one, certainly looks ideally suited to a wing-back role, given he has pace to burn, an eye for a pass and a shot, and, of course, remains a hugely capable, pacy defender.

Against Wolves he should get opportunities to roam forward and looks a big price at 4/1 to get a shot on target. He is averaging exactly a shot a game this season, decent for a defender in a struggling team.

Rayan Ait-Nouri Over 0.5 Shots on Target - 6/4

Talking of wing-backs who look every bit as precious going forward as they do going back brings us to Wolves' own foraging flier, Air-Nouri.

Most of Wolves' best work comes down the left, with Ait-Nouri creating chances galore but also scoring - he has three goals to go with his two assists.

He had two more shots against Palace last week and can get another one on target against Saints.

Southampton Corner Match Bet - 11/8

Wolves won only three corners at home to Palace last Sunday, matching their average for the season at Molineux.

Saints, who will probably see upwards of 60 per cent possession, are averaging 5.2 corners on their travels.

They look a spot of value at 11/8 in the corner match bet market.
