Wolves v Ipswich Town: Prediction, Tips and Odds

A massive Premier League relegation clash takes place at Molineux on Saturday afternoon, when 19th-placed Wolves host 18th-placed Ipswich Town.

These two clubs are level on nine points, the Tractor Boys ahead on goal difference, so a victory would be precious for either side as they are four points from safety.

With the bottom three in danger of being cut adrift, claiming the spoils at Molineux looks even more important and this could turn out to be a good day for the visitors.

Wolves v Ipswich Town betting tips and predictions

Draw or Ipswich double chance - 5/6

Wolves were enjoying a mini-revival after stringing together a four-game unbeaten run, collecting eight points in the process, but three successive defeats have brought them back down to earth with a bang.

Manager Gary O'Neil has been given the dreaded vote of confidence by the board following Monday's 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers West Ham United and a fourth loss in a row could bring an end to his reign.

Defence has been the main concern for the Black Country outfit, who have conceded a league-high 38 goals with 11 of those coming across their last four fixtures.

O'Neil has failed to plug the gaps at the back and his side could be punished by Ipswich, whose sole league victory this season came on the road at Tottenham Hotspur.

Five of the nine points the Tractor Boys have collected have come away from home, with draws at Southampton and Brighton adding to that Spurs triumph.

While failing to win any of their last three assignments, Kieran McKenna's side have been competitive and they have lost the trio of games all by a one-goal margin.

The most of those defeats will have hurt the most, as Ipswich were 1-0 up at home against Bournemouth before the Cherries scored in the 87th minute and stoppage-time to snatch the win.

McKenna will be eager to see a response from his side and they may be able to get a positive result from this clash, especially as Wolves have won just once at Molineux in the league this term.

Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score - 21/20

This contest promises to have plenty of goals and it would be a surprise if the net is not bulging at both ends in the West Midlands.

Wolves' defensive issues are clear to see with 38 goals conceded in the league and they have managed just one clean sheet from 15 matches, that coming against rock-bottom Southampton, who are the lowest scorers in the division.

O'Neil's side have impressed in attack, notching 23 times, with only Arsenal and Everton stopping the Black Country outfit from finding the back of the net.

Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score has landed in 11 of Wolves' 15 top-flight assignments and there looks to be every chance of that bet coming in again.

Visitors Ipswich have also had their defensive issues, shipping 27 goals, and their sole clean sheet came at Brighton back in the middle of September.

The Tractor Boys have scored in five of their seven away matches in the league and they can play their part in an entertaining affair at Molineux.

Liam Delap to be booked - 11/4

Neither of these sides have backed down when it comes to making a tackle this season, with Wolves third in the yellow cards department on 40 and Ipswich in joint-fourth on 38.

Given what is at stake in this fixture, it would be no surprise to see some challenges flying in and it could be a busy afternoon for referee Simon Hooper, who brandished seven yellows the last time he officiated a game involving Wolves.

It is not a home player who is being looked at for this bet, though, as there is plenty of value in backing Ipswich forward Liam Delap to get his name taken.

Delap picked up his fourth league booking of the campaign last time out, taking his tally to five in all competitions, meaning another caution would see him slapped with a suspension.

The 21-year-old has made the most fouls of any player in the league, 36 in total, and he has made three or more fouls in four of his last six appearances.

Delap is walking a tightrope and he may end up going in the book again, which would rule him out of the home clash against Newcastle United on 21st December.
