Wolves v Brighton: Tips, Predictions and Odds

FA Cup action continues on Wednesday night with an all-Premier League affair as Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton travel to Molineux to face Gary O’Neil’s Wolves.

Both sides are having positive campaigns in the league but recent away form could scupper Brighton’s chances of progression, with home advantage potentially proving pivotal for Wolves.

Wolves v Brighton predictions

Wolves to win @ 7/5

With just two places and one point separating these two sides in the Premier League, the signs are pointing to a nail-bitingly close encounter at Molineux.

The hosts have been in fine form in recent weeks with eight wins across their last 12 games in all competitions - including victories over Brentford and fierce rivals West Brom in the previous rounds of the tournament - and O’Neil’s men find themselves within a point of a surprise European spot.

Currently occupying that coveted Europa Conference League position is Brighton who have had their issues with consistency this season, producing consecutive victories across competitions just three times all season.

De Zerbi’s side have not looked too strong away from home in recent weeks. Although they have won three of their last five on the road, these victories have been against Championship strugglers Stoke City along with a duo of dominant performances at the Premier League’s bottom side Sheffield United - one of those coming in the last round of the FA Cup.

Wolves could therefore find some joy at Molineux where they have looked so strong since October, losing just two of their last 12 there in all competitions and, with just one injury absence expected in the form of Matheus Cunha, they may have enough to edge out the Seagulls on Wednesday.

Both Teams to Score @ 4/7

Although getting points on the board regularly, neither side has been able to register too many shut-outs through the season so far.

Wolves have managed just seven clean sheets from their 31 games this term in all competitions, and two of these have come in cup competitions - both against lower league opposition in West Brom and League One Blackpool.

The Seagulls have also kept opposition attacks at bay just seven times across their 35 appearances. Three of these have come in the Europa League - a pair of 2-0 victories over Ajax being the most notable - and one came on their last away trip at Bramall Lane when the hosts had a man sent off after just 13 minutes.

Three of the last four meetings at Molineux have seen both sides find the back of the net, and each of the four have also seen at least three goals so an entertaining encounter should be expected.

Craig Dawson to be carded @ 3/1

Both Wolves and the Seagulls have been familiar with falling foul of the referee this season, with the two sides ranking in the top six for yellow cards collected in the Premier League.

Brighton are sixth in this metric, picking up 64 yellows and three reds over the course of the campaign. However, the likes of Billy Gilmour, James Milner and Kaoru Mitoma - who have picked up 13 cards between them - will all miss out through suspension or injury and so maybe a more disciplined squad could be on show.

It could therefore be a Wolves player that finds themselves in the firing line of the referee, and defender Craig Dawson looks a worthy bet at 3/1 to pick up another yellow.

The 33-year-old has already been shown seven yellow cards in the league this season - only midfielder Mario Lemina has received more for Wolves - and has given away only 20 fouls, meaning that 35% of his mistimed tackles has resulted in a booking.

With a talented attack including the likes of Evan Ferguson, Simon Adingra and Facundo Buonanotte, Brighton could prove to be a handful for the veteran defender.
