After a troubling start to their National League campaign, Woking have started to hit their stride as they prepare to welcome Hartlepool to the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Monday night.
After losing their opening two games against Altrincham and Gateshead, Woking have responded with back-to-back wins over Dagenham & Redbridge and Ebbsfleet United.
Next up for Michael Doyle’s side is Hartlepool, who have never won at Woking in their history with two draws and two defeats from their previous trips to the Surrey ground.
Pool are currently unbeaten in the National League this season but needed an 98th-minute equaliser last time out against Wealdstone to protect that record.
It’s as quick a turnaround as you will get for Woking and Hartlepool on Bank Holiday Monday after playing on Saturday but Woking might well be the tired ones left smiling come the full-time whistle.
Woking to win to nil - 3/1
There will have been some growing concerns at Woking after picking up no points from their first two games in the National League this season, scoring no goals and receiving a red card in each, but those worries have been tempered by strong performances against Dagenham & Redbridge and Ebbsfleet, keeping clean sheets in both.
Striker Charley Kendall can take his portion of the credit for the turnaround, as he scored the winner against Dagenham & Redbridge before following that up with another goal last time out against Ebbsfleet in a 3-0 win.
Kendall will be a goalscoring threat to keep an eye on in this game, which Woking look capable of winning without allowing Hartlepool to get on the scoresheet.
As mentioned, Hartlepool have yet to win at Laithwaite Community Stadium, while three of the last four meetings between these sides have ended with wins to nil.
Pool have managed just three goals in their four National League games so far this season and needed a 98th-minute equaliser from Emmanuel Dieseruvwe to draw 1-1 at home with Wealdstone last time out.
Woking have kept two clean sheets in their last two games and going with a home win to nil on Monday offers great value.
Under 2.5 total goals - 3/4
Given Hartlepool’s scoring issues and Woking’s ability to clean sheets, goals might well be at a premium in Monday afternoon’s contest in Surrey.
The fact both these sides also just played on Saturday means that fatigue could also play a role in this contest for those players featuring in both games.
Both managers are likely to make changes and that could also disrupt the flow of both teams for this clash.
All that considered, going for under 2.5 total goals is certainly worth considering, as it would have landed in the last three meetings between Woking and Hartlepool in the National League.
Half Time/Full Time - Woking/Woking - 3/1
As they did in the first half against Ebbsfleet, Woking will look to make a strong start and are good value to be leading at both the half-time and full-time whistles.
With Hartlepool making the long journey from the North East, Woking will aim to get at the visitors from the off and take a lead into the break as they did against Ebbsfleet.
As fatigue is expected to play a role and with Hartlepool tipped to struggle to find the back of the net, Woking to lead at the break and at full-time is the way to go here.
