Huddersfield Town are unbeaten in 13 games in League One and have put themselves firmly in the promotion picture as a result. The Terriers are fancied to get the better of Wigan when they meet on New Year’s Day.

The Terriers have won nine of their last 13 games and have drawn the other four with victories over Stockport County, Barnsley and Leyton Orient in that run.

They also got the better of Wigan less than a month ago in the reverse fixture and they may simply be too strong going forward for these opponents.

The Latics are among the lowest scorers in the division, having netted just 21 goals in 22 games and it is only their solid defensive record that has prevented them being dragged into a relegation battle.

The home team have struggled to share the goals around, with only three players to have found the net two or more times. By comparison Huddersfield have eight players who have scored at least twice this season.

In fact, 14 of Wigan’s 22 league games have gone under 2.5 goals so don’t expect an end-to-end clash when these two meet.

Huddersfield have scored 15 more goals this season than Shaun Maloney’s side and that increased firepower could be the difference between the two teams as it was in early December when this pair last met.

Josh Koroma has been one of Huddersfield’s standout attacking options for some time and the 26-year-old has continued that trend this season, netting five times in 15 league starts.

He has also netted in the EFL Cup and leads the Terriers in shooting, averaging 3.36 shots per 90 minutes.

The wideman is also Huddersfield’s penalty taker so looks likely to get plenty of opportunities to find the net in this clash and is well worth siding with to add to his tally for the season.

Huddersfield and Wigan are set for an interesting stylistic clash as both teams prefer to have more of the ball.

The Terriers have some of the highest possession stats in the league and also have the highest corner totals of any side.

They average 7.14 corners per 90 minutes, the most in the division, and comfortably more than Wigan’s 4.59.

Even with the Latics sporting home advantage, Huddersfield’s corner dominance is so stark that they should have more than their hosts.
