West Ham Women v Chelsea Women: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The race for the Women’s Super League looks set to go to the wire and defending champions Chelsea will be determined not to slip up when they head across London to take on West Ham on Sunday.

Emma Hayes’s side have won their last six league games and will be full of beans after a 3-0 Champions League victory over Ajax in midweek, while the Hammers have had a disappointing campaign with just Bristol City below them in the table and ten defeats from their 16 WSL matches this term.

West Ham Women v Chelsea Women betting tips and predictions

Over 2.5 Chelsea goals - 5/6

Chelsea have won 14 of their last 16 matches and they have displayed their dominance at home and abroad in what will be Hayes’s final season at the helm.

They have conceded just two goals in their last 11 matches despite a raft of defensive injuries and it looks like it could be a great last season for the popular boss.

They have a FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United to look forward to next month, while a Champions League triumph would be a perfect send-off and they are well placed to make the last four after a 3-0 win over Ajax in the first leg of their quarter-final in midweek.

The Blues secured tight cup wins over Everton and Manchester City recently, but they have been full of goals in the WSL.

Chelsea have scored at least three times in 11 of their 13 fixtures since they beat West Ham 2-0 at Kingsmeadow in October and that included their last league game against Arsenal, when they stormed to a three-goal lead inside the first half an hour of a 3-1 success.

A team who have scored 48 goals in their 16 league games so not be expected to sit back with the league title very much up for grabs and there looks a strong chance that they will find the net at least three times again.

Lauren James to have over 2.5 shots on target - 13/8

Lauren James is the star turn in Hayes’s line-up with 13 goals this season, so it is no surprise to see the England forward just 4/6 to find the net in Dagenham.

However, she has scored in just seven of her 14 league appearances - her tally includes hat-tricks in wins over Liverpool and her former club Manchester United - so there may be other markets that offer a bit more value for those looking to get behind the Chelsea star.

James can usually be relied upon to have plenty of efforts on goal, so take a chance that she can have at least three shots on target in Sunday’s showdown.

She had seven attempts at goal in the 3-1 win over Arsenal and has had three or more shots on target in five league games this season.

James has mustered nine goalbound efforts in her last four Champions League matches, so take a chance she can have at least three in this clash.

Viviane Asseyi to be booked - 15/4

Those looking for a bookings bet are pointed towards West Ham’s French midfielder Viviane Asseyi, who could receive her fifth league yellow card of the season.

Asseyi has the greatest number of fouls among the Hammers squad (24) and she has committed multiple offences in each of her last five league appearances.

She has been booked in three of her last four home matches and, in an intense derby, it would not be a surprise if she fell foul of the officials again.
