West Ham v Brentford: Tips, Predictions and Odds

West Ham are still yet to win in 2024 and on Monday face a London derby against a Brentford side they have never beaten in the Premier League.

The Bees have won all five of the pair's top-flight clashes, most recently November's reverse game when they exposed the Hammers' struggles when defending crosses to run out the 3-2 winners.

Brentford have lost four of their last five, but those results can be qualified by them going down to Tottenham, Manchester City (twice) and Liverpool.

Ivan Toney's return has allowed Thomas Frank to play with two up front and, despite going down 1-0 at the Etihad, they caused plenty of issues for the Citizens on Tuesday.

Although their defending can be haphazard, with Kristoffer Ajer's slip allowing Erling Haaland a clean run on goal for his winner in Manchester, Frank's side play with a flexibility that could leave the Hammers flummoxed.

West Ham v Brentford betting tips and predictions

Brentford to win @ 7/4

Brentford have lost 11 of their 14 league games since the pair's last meeting, but have been hammered by the fixture list recently.

That has seen them fail to get the results their form has arguably deserved but they will fancy their chances at the London Stadium.

Frank's side have won all five of their Premier League meetings against West Ham and, while the Hammers could be boosted by the return of playmaker Lucas Paqueta following a calf injury, their run of eight without a win has seen them drop out of the European places and eliminated from the FA Cup.

David Moyes suggested on Friday that a contract beyond the end of the season is his if he wants it, with him set to sit down with the board in the summer.

However, the second half of his team's 6-0 defeat in their last home game against Arsenal was only seen by those who decided to stay, with fans streaming out of the ground after a poor opening half.

There were also 'Moyes Out' banners on display during last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest and another defeat on Monday will add to the mutiny in the stands.

Brentford's flexibility has troubled the Hammers in recent years and, with Toney and either Neal Maupay - who has scored in all four of his Premier League starts against West Ham - or Yoane Wissa could help the Bees emerge with the points again.

First Goal Method @ 5/1

All three of Brentford's goals in the reverse fixtures came via headers. Maupay opened the scoring by diverting home a bouncing ball, while Konstantinos Mavropanos nodded into his own net before Nathan Collins headed in the winner.

More recently, Arsenal's first goal in their 6-0 win was also a header, with William Saliba opening the scoring before central defensive partner Gabriel Magalhaes also netted using the same method.

What was most striking about the Hammers' defending of set-pieces against the Gunners was their inability to adapt to Mikel Arteta's side's tactics, with their visitors clearly targeting specific areas to great success.

Moyes, his coaching staff and his players failed to react to Arsenal's rather obvious approach and Frank and his team will look to exploit those weaknesses, so there is value in backing a header for the game's first goal.

Ivan Toney - Over 3.5 Shots @ 5/4

West Ham have faced 20 or more shots in eight Premier League games this term and Toney could help Brentford add to that tally.

The England striker has scored four goals in his six appearances this season and has also netted 16 times in his last 21 London derbies.

Playing alongside another forward seems to bring the best out of him, allowing him to drop off and feed his colleagues or use his shooting skills to try his luck.

He is averaging over three shots a game and could easily edge to four on Monday.
