West Ham United v Liverpool: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Liverpool strengthened their grip in the Premier League with a Boxing Day win over Leicester City and they are expected to beat West Ham United at the London Stadium to maintain their title charge.

Over 3.5 goals @ 1/1

Liverpool's last Premier League away fixture was a 6-3 win at Tottenham just before Christmas and the leaders are set for another exciting game when they return to the capital on Sunday.

Over 3.5 goals has been a winning bet in five of their last six league games and the exception was this month's 2-0 home win over struggling champions Manchester City.

The Reds' clashes with West Ham tend to yield bumper crops of goals and they thrashed the Hammers 5-1 in September's EFL Cup tie at Anfield.

The Hammers had lost by the same scoreline against Liverpool in an EFL Cup quarter-final in December 2023 and last season's league meetings produced a 3-1 home win for the Reds and a 2-2 draw in east London.

The hosts eased the pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui with a 1-0 victory at bottom club Southampton on Thursday.

Facing the league leaders, who have taken 20 points from a possible 24 away from home this season, is a far tougher assignment, and West Ham's win at St Mary's came at a hefty cost.

Veteran goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and centre-back Max Kilman suffered first-half injuries, while midfielder Carlos Soler was forced off at the break.

Tomas Soucek and Guido Rodriguez will be suspended for this game after picking up their fifth yellow cards of the campaign and taking on the Reds with a depleted midfield is far from ideal.

The Irons have the attacking quality to contribute to the goal tally, though, and they should be heartened by some sloppy defending from the league leaders in recent games.

Arne Slot's men won 3-2 at Southampton in late November, while they drew 3-3 at Newcastle United and 2-2 at home to Fulham before beating Spurs 6-3 and coming from behind to see off Leicester 3-1 on Boxing Day.

Draw/Liverpool - Half Time/Full Time @ 7/2

It is hard to pick holes in Liverpool's efforts this season, but Slot's men can be vulnerable in the early stages of matches.

Backing the Draw/Liverpool selection in the Half Time/Full Time market looks a decent play as they were level at the break in recent wins over promoted clubs Southampton and Leicester.

The Reds trailed 1-0 at half-time in this month's draws with Newcastle and Fulham and were behind at the break in October's 2-2 draw at Arsenal, as well as November's 2-1 home win over Brighton.

The Gunners blew West Ham away 5-2 at the London Stadium at the end of November, with all seven goals coming in the first half.

However, the Hammers' last four league matches were all goalless at half-time and they may be able to frustrate their in-form visitors until the interval.

Mohammed Kudus to have over 1.5 shots @ 6/5

Liverpool's patchy defending is a concern given that they face a talented Hammers attacking unit that features Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus in support of striker Niclas Fullkrug.

Kudus has looked particularly threatening this season and he is worth backing to have at least two shots against the leaders.

The Ghana winger scored in two of his last three home matches, against Ipswich and Brighton, and found the net with one of his seven shots in October's defeat at Tottenham.

Kudus has had at least two attempts at goal in 12 of his 13 league starts this term, including home losses to Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa, so he poses a major threat to Liverpool.
