West Ham United v Crystal Palace: Prediction, Tips and Odds

New West Ham boss Graham Potter is up and running at the London Stadium though he's the first to admit there is plenty of work to do to get the Hammers flying again and his side face a tough visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday.

It's one win in the league and one defeat in the cup so far as Potter's men prepare to take on an Eagles side who are buzzing after Wednesday night's 2-0 success at Leicester City.

Crystal Palace Draw No Bet - 5/6

Potter's men overcame an absence of three key front men to beat Fulham 3-2 on Tuesday night to secure his first Premier League win at his first attempt since joining the Hammers last week.

Carlos Soler, Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta, nominally a No.9 but drifting around the frontline, were on target as West Ham snapped a three-game losing streak.

That they did it minus any of Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug was even more commendable and those three are still absent this weekend.

But it was anything but a convincing effort from West Ham against a poor Fulham and hot on the heels of a 2-1 loss at Aston Villa in the FA Cup - Potter's first game in charge - the ex-Brighton and Chelsea chief knows there are plenty of problems to solve going forward.

A win is a win, of course, and that will lift spirits after the tame end to the Julen Lopetegui experiment but now comes a test against a resurgent Palace.

The Eagles, who finished last season like a train with no defeats in their last seven games to stay up, started this campaign in complete contrast with no wins in their first eight.

Under Oliver Glasner, however, they do like a streak of results and Wednesday's win at the King Power made it just one loss in 10 in the Premier League and unbeaten in five in all competitions.

Since a 5-1 home drubbing by Arsenal in the fixture before Christmas, they have conceded just two goals in five outings and they are now unbeaten in their last six away league games, impressive given they have travelled to places like Aston Villa, Brighton and Bournemouth in that period.

Glasner is blessed with an almost settled back five in front of Dean Henderson and they are conceding almost five shots per game fewer than West Ham.

The Eagles have scored four goals less than West Ham but, of course, the hosts are minus three big-name frontmen including five-goal joint-top scorer Bowen.

Palace's away form is excellent, defensively they are strong and Potter sounds like a man who knows West Ham are some way from being trustworthy.

Will Hughes to be booked - 3/1

Will Hughes' return from injury for Palace at Leicester stiffened up the midfield and he came through the test unscathed, playing 62 minutes in the 2-0 win.

Indeed, his performance was all the more important because Jefferson Lerma went off with an illness, the after-effects of a bug sweeping through Selhurst Park.

Hughes can expect to play more minutes at West Ham after shaking off the rust and he can carry on doing what he does best - breaking up play, putting in tackles, committing the odd foul and incurring the wrath of the officials.

No Palace player gets booked quite as much as Hughes, who has picked up seven yellow cards in just 18 appearances this season. He was also cautioned in their EFL Cup win at Aston Villa back in October.

With eight bookings since the start of September, he looks good value in what is sure to be a fiery local derby to pick up another.

Race to 3 Corners - Crystal Palace - 10/11

West Ham have lost the race to three corners in each of Potter's two matches in charge.

In their 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Villa they had already conceded nine corners by the time they won their third, while in Tuesday's 3-2 triumph over Fulham they somehow failed to win a single corner.

Glasner, according to Hughes, offered some choice words at half time at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday, the Austrian cursing a slow start. The rant paid off because they went on to win 2-0.

However, expect a faster start from a Palace team who win 4.9 corners per away game and can get to three before the hosts.
