West Ham will want to extinguish any relegation worries as soon as possible and it looks set to be a goal-filled clash on Saturday with London rivals Brentford, who look to have finally got their act together on the road, winning their last two away games at Southampton and Crystal Palace.
Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals - 4/5
West Ham do not appear to be in great Premier League relegation danger as they have a 10-point gap between them and the bottom three, but they will not want to sit 16th for much longer and Graham Potter’s side are likely to get on the front foot against Brentford on Saturday.
That should make for an entertaining derby at the London Stadium as while the Bees have been whipping boys on the road for much of the season, they look to have finally got their act together on their travels.
They have finally claimed their first away league victories of the campaign after following a 5-0 success at bottom-of-the-table Southampton with an impressive 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.
While Thomas Frank’s side took two points from their opening nine league away games, they have scored in eight of their 11 games on the road and should fancy their chances of making a breakthrough at the London Stadium, where West Ham have conceded nine times in their last three games.
Nine of their last 12 home games have featured at least three goals and the Hammers have kept just one clean sheet in their last 21 league matches on their own patch, so there looks a strong chance both teams will notch in a high-scoring clash.
Tomas Soucek anytime goalscorer - 15/4
No-one has stood out as a prolific goalscorer for West Ham this season and Jarrod Bowen is the club’s top league goalscorer with just six goals.
However, towering Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek poses a big threat and he could join Bowen on half-a-dozen goals when they take on the Bees at the London Stadium.
Soucek is a real threat from set-piece situations and can be relied upon to get on the end of free-kicks and corners whenever the Hammers are able to bomb the ball into the penalty area.
Brentford found that for themselves when Soucek scored the Hammers’ goal in the 1-1 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium in September and he helped his side claim a 3-2 win over Fulham last month, so he could provide some decent value to find the net again.
Edson Valdez to be booked - 11/5
Midfield Edson Valdez looks the most vulnerable Hammer in the game’s bookings markets.
The Mexican has already seen red twice this season after receiving two yellow cards, in the League Cup defeat to finalists Liverpool in September and then in the 3-0 loss at Nottingham Forest two months later.
Alvarez has been cautioned four times in 11 subsequent league appearances and two of those have come in West Ham’s last two games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
He has committed 12 fouls in his last three outings and there could be some value to be had in backing his name to go into the referee’s notebook once again.
