Watford v Leeds: Prediction, Tips and Odds

In their first game back after the international break, Leeds will be eager to strengthen their grip on top spot in the Championship table when they face Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Whites are yet to lose in the league in 2024 and they will fancy their chances of beating a Watford side that have failed to win any of their previous six at home.

Watford v Leeds betting tips and predictions

Leeds to win and both teams to score - 11/5

With the March international break now behind us, it is now getting serious in the Championship.

There are no further breaks until the end of the campaign and it is Daniel Farke's Leeds that sit top of the pile after picking up 82 points from their first 38 matches.

A win over Millwall before the international break helped them claim top spot, but Leicester did not play that week due to their FA Cup exploits, meaning the Foxes still have a game in hand over Leeds.

The Foxes are in the driving seat for the title, but Leeds will travel south in confident mood.

Farke's side last lost in the Championship in December and they have won 12 of their 13 league games in 2024.

They have kept three successive clean sheets, but Watford may have some joy on Friday.

The Hornets have scored in four consecutive matches in the Championship at Vicarage Road and Leeds' injuries at the back may force Farke into fielding a weakened XI.

Connor Roberts was withdrawn during Wales' play-off loss to Poland, while Junior Firpo will not arrive back in Leeds until Thursday, meaning he will barely have trained with the squad.

Pascal Struijk's season is over after groin surgery, while holding midfielder Ilia Gruev is also carrying a knock.

With so much uncertainty surrounding Leeds' starting XI, there's every chance Watford can continue their scoring run, but only one team should come out on top at the end of 90 minutes.

Georginio Rutter to score or assist - 4/5

One man who should be returning from surgery is forward Georginio Rutter, who underwent hernia surgery during the international break.

The Frenchman has already featured in training, so the signs suggest he will start on Friday at Vicarage Road.

Rutter's ability to carry the ball and pick out a team-mate has already earned him 15 assists this season, while he has also scored six goals.

He has created 78 chances during the current campaign, at an average of 2.2 per match and he should play his part against the Hornets.

Card Handicap - Watford - 5/4

Watford remain under the stewardship of interim manager Tom Cleverley and he and his staff will have their work cut out this week.

The Hornets come up against one of the fastest and most potent attacks in the English Football League and Watford's disciplinary record is hard to ignore.

They have picked up 86 yellow cards already this season, which puts them joint-fifth in the standings in that category.

They average 12.7 fouls per match, the third-most in the Championship, while they have conceded six penalties already this season.

Leeds have enjoyed the third-most possession in the second tier and they have also collected the fewest yellow cards in the Championship, so it should be the hosts who dominate the card handicap at Vicarage Road.
