Walsall v Tranmere Rovers: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Walsall have opened up a ten-point gap at the top of League Two and will be confident they can further boost their promotion claims with a victory over Tranmere Rovers, who are on a run of five straight away league defeats.

Walsall v Tranmere Rovers betting tips and predictions

Walsall to win to nil - 6/4

The Saddlers have the League Two title race firmly by the scruff of the neck and they should be able to see off Tranmere with a minimum of fuss in their Saturday lunchtime kick-off at the Bescot Stadium.

Mat Sadler’s side have opened up a ten-point gap at the top of the table and it is difficult to see Rovers threatening a team who have conceded just one goal in their last six games and have won their last seven.

Admittedly, Tranmere claimed a 1-0 victory when the pair met at Prenton Park in August, but Nigel Adkins’ side have won just four of their 19 league outings since and lost five on the bounce on their travels.

It would take a big slump for them to be dragged into one of the two relegation places - they are seven points clear - but Rovers cannot afford to be complacent.

They could struggle to score in this game, though, as the Saddlers have kept clean sheets in their last three home games against Barrow, Doncaster Rovers and Newport County and, with Tranmere failing to score in three of their last four away games, a home win to nil looks a decent bet.

Nathan Lowe to score at any time - 13/8

Walsall have not been full of goals in recent matches despite their lofty league standing - they have scored more than twice in just one of their last 11 League Two games, but one player who has been in red-hot form is on-loan striker Nathan Lowe.

He has scored five goals in his last four games, including both in the 2-0 victory over Newport in Walsall’s last home match.

With 16 shots on goal in his last four matches, he is plainly brimming with confidence and revelling in the opportunity of first-team football, so expect him to play a major role and find the net when Rovers come to town.

Over 6.5 Walsall corners - 11/10

With Walsall enjoying such a commanding lead in League Two, it is not a surprise to see the Saddlers at the top of the fourth-tier corner stats.

They have earned an average of 6.26 in their 23 league games this season, although it is somewhat surprising that their home average is 5.5.

There does seem to be scope that these figures could level off in the second half of the season and there looks a strong chance they can earn more than six in Saturday’s game.

Tranmere have conceded an average of 5.18 this season on their travels and that figure could be comfortably eclipsed in a match where they may be pegged back in their own half more than in an average outing.
