Walsall v Salford City Prediction: Saddlers to hold firm in 12/5 draw

Salford City stand at the top of the League Two table after eight wins from their last nine games, but hosts Walsall are the only remaining unbeaten team in the fourth tier this season.

The Saddlers are six points worse off than their visitors due to having drawn seven of the 11 league games they have played so far this term, while City have recovered from losing their first three League Two matches to storm to the top of the standings.

A tense clash appears to be in store at the Bescot Stadium on Monday evening, with both meetings of these two teams last season having been settled by a lone strike in favour of the home team.

Walsall v Salford City

Walsall v Salford City Prediction

Best Bet: Draw @ 12/5

Salford will no doubt head down the M6 thinking about taking all three points as they seek to make amends for narrowly missing out on promotion last season, having lost 3-0 in the play-off final to Notts County.

However, despite having secured three-point returns in their last six league games and eight of their last nine in League Two, they may have to settle for a share of the spoils with a Saddlers side yet to taste defeat in the league this season.

The two meetings of these two sides last season were decided by a single goal for the home side and this showdown promises to be just as tight, with Walsall hard to beat but also difficult to back to claim the victory.

Lee Grant's side have only won four of the 11 league matches they have played so far this term, although three of their four victories have come on home turf at the Bescot.

Visitors City will definitely not go down without a fight and the best option appears to be to go with the draw as Peter Cklamovski's Ammies aim to extend their lead at the top of the table to at least four points.

Alternative Bet: First to seven corners - Walsall @ 11/4

While Salford have been winning games for fun in recent times, they have not been racking up the corners and the hosts can be expected to get the better of City in this metric on Monday evening.

City took just three flag-kicks in their 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers last time out, having had four and five in their successes at Cheltenham Town and at home to Crawley Town.

In contrast, the Saddlers had eight corners as they swept aside Oldham Athletic 3-0 on Tuesday evening, having earned 10 last weekend as they drew 1-1 at Swindon Town.

Walsall v Salford City Bet Builder Tip

  • Macaulay Longstaff 2+ shots on target

  • Isaac Moore to be booked

  • Goals range 1-4

    Pays 15/1

Much is expected from City striker Macaulay Longstaff this season following his arrival from Millwall and he has scored three goals across his last four appearances, with those coming from six shots on target.

He will no doubt find the home defence tough to breach on Monday, but he will not be deterred from having a go and opens this Bet Builder for having 2+ shots on target in the match.

Second up is home midfielder Isaac Moore to be booked, with the Coventry City loanee having already collected five yellow cards since joining the League Two outfit at the start of the season.

Finally add in a goals range of 1-4, which would have landed in all but one of the Saddlers' league games played so far this season, as well as all but two of the Ammies' League Two outings.

That goals range has also come in in 13 of the 14 previous meetings between these two sides.
