Walsall v Doncaster Rovers: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The fourth tier has been hugely competitive with very little to choose between most of the teams, but Walsall have stood apart in terms of consistency and are six points clear at the top of the table.

Mat Sadler’s side are unbeaten in 11 league matches and warmed up for Christmas with a professional 2-0 victory away to Harrogate which was achieved despite high winds heavily disrupting the flow of the game.

Walsall have shown they can win in all sorts of ways but they will be respectful of third-placed Doncaster Rovers, who may end up being their main title challengers.

Donny are strong on the road while they boosted their home record at the weekend with a comfortable 3-1 victory at home to Tranmere.

Walsall v Doncaster Rovers betting tips and predictions

Draw - 23/10

Doncaster Rovers went nine games without an away defeat before their recent 1-0 reverse at AFC Wimbledon and they can show their resilience by taking a point against Walsall at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Away trips in League Two don’t come any tougher than visits to Walsall, who have amassed 22 points from 10 games at their West Midlands base.

But Rovers have risen to some tough challenges on their travels with wins at Port Vale (3-2), Grimsby (3-0) and Bradford (2-1), and they won’t shirk from the challenge.

Grant McCann’s side are still striving for greater consistency but they can look back on a hugely positive year.

They came from way off the pace to reach last season’s play-offs and are now up to third in the latest standings after losing just one of their last eight games.

However, Rovers will have to contend with a supremely confident Walsall on a four-game winning sequence.

The Saddlers are a no frills side who are 22nd in the average possession statistics with a share of 42.8 percent, but they are ultra-competitive and carry a threat up front with veteran striker Jamille Matt and Stoke loanee Nathan Lowe forging an excellent partnership.

Walsall are in great shape to maintain their promotion push but there will be bumps along the way and the visit of Doncaster may see a couple of points dropped.

Luke Molyneux to score any time - 3/1

Doncaster have shared the goals around but seven-goal attacker Luke Molyneux is their leading marksman and he looks the man most likely to breach a disciplined Walsall rearguard.

Molyneux is a pacy, skilful player with excellent long distance shooting ability which makes him especially difficult to contain.

The 26-year-old has fired off 49 shots (the fourth highest in the division) and looks a tempting 3/1 shot to add to his goal tally.

Second half highest scoring half - 1/1

The more consistent teams tend to be fit and strong so it is no great surprise to see that Walsall and Doncaster are particularly effective in the later stages of games.

Walsall have scored 25 of their 37 league goals in the second half while Donny have bagged 19 of their 31 after the break.

Their contest could be a slow burner with both teams likely to show plenty of respect for each other.

However, it should eventually open up and there may be value in backing a higher scoring second half at 1/1.
