Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 23/20
USA came into the CONCACAF Gold Cup in poor form, having lost to Canada and Panama at the CONCACAF Nations League before a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Turkey and a 4-0 hammering by Switzerland.
Nevertheless they were solid in the group stages of this tournament, scoring eight goals in three games. However, Costa Rica are not without hope, they picked up seven points from their group, including a draw with defending champions Mexico.
Three of the last four meetings between these two teams have gone over 2.5 goals and USA’s defence was leaky before this tournament so could be tested by Los Ticos.
However, they have plenty of attacking options of their own and three or more goals looks overpriced in this clash.
Joe Casey explains:
These are two young teams with plenty of exciting attackers, with Malik Tillman and Diego Luna in particular catching the eye for USA, and that could lead to a high-scoring affair.
Patrick Agyemang to score
Orlando Galo to be booked
Both teams to score
Pays 12/1
The central striker position has long been a problem for the USA, but Patrick Agyemang is laying a strong claim to it after five goals in nine appearances, and he could add to that tally.
Orlando Galo led Costa Rica with eight fouls in three group games and the midfielder was booked against Mexico, so he looks a tempting prospect for another card.
Costa Rica had scored in their last seven competitive games before being blanked by Mexico last time out take both teams to score.
