Euros: Ukraine news, fixtures, manager, key players, Euros record

After finishing third in Group C behind England and Italy, Ukraine were made to qualify through the play-offs for Euro 2024, battling past Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland to confirm their place this summer.

Ukraine have only appeared at three European Championships as an independent nation. Those have all come in the last three tournaments and they will look to build on their 2020 result, when they reached the quarter-finals.

Serhiy Rebrov's team may not have done enough to secure a top-two spot, but they showed plenty of heart to qualify through the play-offs and they will now compete alongside Belgium, Slovakia and Romania in Group E.

Ukraine manager

Sergiy Rebrov

Rebrov's side have only lost twice under his stewardship and Ukraine's passionate fanbase will no doubt be pleased by what the Blue and Yellow have shown under his tutelage.

The 49-year-old was the strike partner of Andriy Shevchenko throughout the 1990s, with Shevchenko regarded as Ukraine's greatest-ever player. Rebrov played 75 times for his country between 1992 and 2006, scoring 15 goals.

He was Ukraine's assistant boss for a year in 2010 and he will hope to do his country proud on the big stage this summer.

Ukraine captain

Andriy Yarmolenko

Forward Yarmolenko will lead Ukraine this summer, as long as he remains fit.

He is back playing for Dynamo Kyiv, where he made a name for himself during a nine-year spell between 2008-2017.

Yarmolenko left Dynamo Kyiv for Borussia Dortmund in 2017 before enjoying a four-year stint in the Premier League with West Ham United and then spending a year with Abu Dhabi outfit Al-Ain.

First capped in 2009, Yarmolenko has since made 118 appearances for his country, scoring 46 goals.

At 34, he is coming to the end of his career, but Rebrov will lean on him for his experience and technical ability in the final third.

Ukraine key players

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Arsenal ace Zinchenko will be one of the first names on Rebrov's teamsheet this summer.

The Gunners have used him in defence this season, but he is a fixture in his country's midfield and he will be expected to add to his 62 caps.

Zinchenko's calmness on the ball and fitness levels will be key to controlling the midfield this summer.

Roman Yaremchuk

Club Brugge forward Yaremchuk will likely lead the line for Ukraine and the powerful striker will hope to add to his 14 goals.

He has spent the last season on loan at Valencia in La Liga and while he is not as prolific as some of his predecessors, he plays a crucial role in linking the play.

Yaremchuk played at Euro 2020 and that experience will no doubt be invaluable this time around.

Mykhailo Mudryk

Ukraine's quality comes in midfield and they will expect Chelsea's Mudryk to make the most of the chances provided to him.

The tricky winger has yet to showcase his skills on a consistent basis at Stamford Bridge, but his potential could be unlocked in Germany.

Mudryk has only made 20 appearances for his country, but this could be the year he announces himself on the big stage.

Ukraine one to watch

Andriy Lunin

Goalkeeper Lunin has finally had the chance to prove himself at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Real Madrid No.1 Thibaut Courtois sidelined with a knee injury.

He has helped Real Madrid win the Champions League this season and still has plenty of time to develop.

Ukraine Euro 2024 prospects

Odds of 100/1 for Ukraine to go all the way this summer suggest they should struggle, but Rebrov's side have already prove they can handle the big occasion after coming through the play-offs.

Ukraine finished with the same points as Italy but lost out on goal difference in qualifying, so there are signs that they could enjoy a run into the latter stages.

The Blue and Yellow should at least finish second to Belgium in Group E, and odds of 3/1 for them to advance to the quarter-finals look good value, especially when they reached that stage four years ago.
