2024/25 UEFA Europa League team of the season

Tottenham Hotspur were able to put their domestic struggles to one side as they went all the way and claimed the UEFA Europa League title, beating Premier League rivals Manchester United in the final in Bilbao.

Unsurprisingly, the Spurs squad features heavily in our Europa League team of the season and there are a couple of additions from one of the tournament’s surprise packages after Norway’s Bodo/Glimt made an improbable run to the last four.

We examine which players have stood out the most in the Europa League in 2024/25 with bet365's Europa League Team of the Season, which lines up in the 4-3-3 formation champions Spurs used in the final.

Football

GK: Nikita Haikin (Bodo/Glimt)

Bodo/Glimt were the surprise packages of the Europa League with their incredible run to the semi-finals, becoming the first Norwegian club to reach the last four of a European club competition in the process.

Glimt claimed wins over Porto, Braga and Besiktas during the league phase and dumped out Twente, Olympiacos and Serie A heavyweights Lazio during the knockout stages before losing out to eventual champions Spurs.

Their success was, in part, due to the heroics of goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, who made a tournament high 67 saves and kept three clean sheets across his 16 appearances in the competition.

RB: Pedro Porro (Tottenham)

Tottenham went on to claim the trophy so a few members of their squad had to make the team of the season and Pedro Porro made an excellent contribution from right-back.

Porro’s defensive work was solid, averaging 1.7 tackles per-game and 1.2 interceptions, while he also made key contributions in attack with five goal involvements, three of which came during the knockout stages.

CB: Cristian Romero (Tottenham)

Spurs centre-back Cristian Romero was named Player of the Match in the Europa League final. The Argentina international also put in commanding performances in both legs of the semi-finals and in a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt in the last eight.

CB: Alessio Romagnoli (Lazio)

Lazio may have underwhelmed in the knockout stages but they looked the team to beat in the league phase as they set the tone in the new format.

The Rome club only lost one of their eight games and that defeat came in the final round of fixtures when top spot had already been secured. They also only conceded five goals during that opening period, and defender Alessio Romagnoli was their standout performer at the back.

LB: Fredrik Andre Bjorkan (Bodo/Glimt)

Another Glimt player completes the defence, as Fredrik Andre Bjorkan made a huge contribution from left-back with three assists and a goal in his 16 games.

MID: Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

Manchester United fell just short in their quest for Europa League glory but their hopes may have come to an end a little earlier had it not been for the performances of Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes was the competition’s joint top scorer with seven goals and he also had four assists, making key contributions in both the quarter-final win over Lyon and the semi-final success against Athletic Bilbao.

MID: Patrick Berg (Bodo/Glimt)

Glimt midfielder Patrick Berg had two goals and three assists in his 15 games and worked tirelessly for the Norwegian outfit, recovering 112 balls - a competition high - and making 26 tackles.

MID: Alex Berenguer (Athletic Bilbao)

Athletic Bilbao playmaker Alex Berenguer showcased his creative qualities in the Europa League, with three assists in his 14 appearances. Berenguer also had a pass accuracy of just over 75% and put in 54 crosses over the course of the competition.

RW: Rayan Cherki (Lyon)

Rayan Cherki enjoyed an exceptional campaign and he did some of his best work in the Europa League, weighing in with eight assists and four goals in his 12 games in the competition.

LW: Brennan Johnson (Tottenham)

Bilbao’s Nico Williams perhaps deserved to be in the Europa League team of the season, he made the UEFA team of the tournament, but for sheer impact we can’t ignore Spurs man Brennan Johnson.

Johnson hit four goals in his first 12 appearances in the competition and wasn’t necessarily a star performer - but he saved his best display for when it mattered the most with the only goal of the game in the final.

ST: Dominic Solanke (Tottenham)

Johnson was Spurs’ star in the final, but Dominic Solanke played a key role in getting the London club to the showpiece. He had five goals and four assists during Tottenham’s Europa League campaign - scoring in each of the final three knockout fixtures before the big game in Bilbao.
