Roma to win the UEFA Europa League - 8/1

English clubs are rarely underrated in the betting for European competitions and Liverpool were short-priced favourites for last season's UEFA Europa League until their shock quarter-final defeat to Atalanta.

The Reds were beaten 3-0 in the first leg at Anfield by an Atalanta side who went on to defeat German champions Bayer Leverkusen by the same scoreline in the final.

Atalanta will not be defending their title as they are in the UEFA Champions League which, like the Europa League, has been expanded to 36 clubs this term.

Each team plays eight league fixtures, four home and four away, and the top eight in the final league table go straight into the round of 16. The next 16 teams in the table, those finishing from ninth to 24th, must come through a play-off round to reach the last 16. 

Premier League pair Tottenham and Manchester United head the betting for the UEFA Europa League but improving last season's league finishes of fifth and eighth must be the priority for both clubs.

It may pay to back another Italian winner of the UEFA Europa League in 2024/25 as Roma have enjoyed excellent European campaigns in the past four seasons.

They won the Conference League under Jose Mourinho in 2021/22, reached the Europa League final in 2022/23, losing on penalties to Sevilla, and suffered semi-final defeats to Manchester United in 2020/21 and Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Roma's Europa League run last term included impressive knockout victories over Brighton and AC Milan and club legend Daniele De Rossi, who succeeded Mourinho as manager in January, is assembling an exciting squad.

Their summer signings include Ukraine striker Artem Dovbyk, the top goalscorer in La Liga last season, and experienced centre-back Mats Hummels, who started for Borussia Dortmund in last term's UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Roma have made a modest start in Serie A but they drew 0-0 away to Juventus last time out and look set for another bold bid for European glory.

Fenerbahce to win the UEFA Europa League - 20/1

Turkey reached the quarter-finals of the Euros in the summer and their domestic clubs have made some eye-catching signings during the off-season.

Galatasaray are 20/1 to win the UEFA Europa League after bringing in ace Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on loan but Fenerbahce's squad is also packed with talent.

Having appointed Jose Mourinho as manager in June, they have taken 10 points from their first four Super Lig matches, stretching their unbeaten run in the Turkish top flight to 31 games.

Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic has Turkey international defenders Mert Muldur, Caglar Soyuncu and Samet Akaydin in front of him while Fred and Sofyan Amrabat add steel to central midfield.

Powerful strikers Edin Dzeko, Youssef En-Nesyri and Cenk Tosun can expect decent service from Dusan Tadic, Sebastian Szymanski, Cengiz Under and former Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Mourinho won the UEFA Europa League with Manchester United in 2016/17 before claiming the Conference League with Roma in 2021/22 and he would love to upset former clubs United and Tottenham in Europe this term.
