Tottenham Women v Manchester City Women: Predictions, Tips & Odds

Manchester City Women will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they take on Tottenham Women in the quarter-finals of the Women's FA Cup.

We are down to the last eight in the competition and it is no surprise to see City as hot favourites to book their place in the semi-finals after three wins over Spurs without conceding in the last couple of months, including a 7-0 win in November.

However, Tottenham did win against Arsenal shortly after that humbling and were beaten just 1-0 by the Gunners in the league last week, so they will be confident that they can give City a much better run for their money when they meet at Leyton Orient.

Either way, with just two games to go before a potential Wembley appearance, there looks set to be no quarter given in this clash in east London.

Tottenham Women v Manchester City Women betting predictions and tips

Under 2.5 goals - 7/4

City considered themselves unfortunate to come off second best against the champions in midweek as they created enough chances to have kept their impressive run going and fell victim to a deflected effort from Lauren James that decided the issue.

Their strong run has them level in the Women’s Super League with Emma Hayes’s side, but while their streak started with the 7-0 thumping they gave Spurs, their recent matches have been a lot tighter.

They were forced to scrap their way to 1-0 wins over their big rivals at the top of the table, Chelsea and Arsenal and won by the same scoreline when taking on Tottenham in the previous round of the Continental Cup.

So while they ran riot against the north Londoners in November, a 2-0 win at Brisbane Road in a subsequent league game suggests there could be fewer goals on Sunday.

That Robert Ailahamn’s side have not scored more than one goal in their last six matches, which included a 1-0 success over Championship Charlton in the last round, the chances of their being more than two goals in this quarter-final could have been underrated, so it may be worth taking the unders.

Khadija Shaw first goalscorer - 15/8

While this may not prove to be the most high-scoring of encounters, there is little doubt that City’s Khadija Shaw is the biggest goal threat on show and it would be no surprise if the Jamaica striker set her team on their way with the opening goal.

Shaw has had 61 shots at goal in 13 WSL starts this season and has fond memories of playing Spurs having netted a hat-trick in that 7-0 win.

She also took the match ball home after wins over Everton and Liverpool and has failed to score in just two of her last nine league starts.

Shaw has had at least two shots on target in seven of her last nine starts and it would be a big shock if she did not have a big say in proceedings at Brisbane Road.

Grace Clinton to be booked - 9/2

Tottenham could have plenty of defending to do and midfielder Grace Clinton is one player to keep an eye on in the bookings markets.

The Lioness started in England’s two recent friendlies against Austria and Italy and picked up her second yellow card of the season in the 1-0 defeat in the north London derby at the Emirates last weekend, but that bookings tally does not tell the whole story.

Clinton has committed almost double the number of fouls of her nearest Spurs team-mate and has been pulled up at least twice in eight of her last 10 appearances.

The wrong decision in the wrong part of the pitch could just lead her going into the book once again and she looks good value at 9/2 to receive another caution.
