Tottenham v Manchester City: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Manchester City need another six points to clinch the Premier League title and will be going all out for a victory away to fifth-placed Tottenham, who have struggled in the closing weeks of the campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side are targeting an eighth straight league win but they will be respectful of Spurs, who held them to a 3-3 draw at the Etihad earlier in the season.

Tottenham v Manchester City Predictions

Manchester City and over 3.5 goals - 13/10

Manchester City would happily accept a couple of dull 1-0 wins as they attempt to wrap up a fourth consecutive Premier League title, but they might have to show off their attacking qualities to get the better of Tottenham in North London.

The Citizens triumphed 1-0 away to Tottenham in this season’s FA Cup third round, but a repeat scoreline is unlikely due to a change in mindset from their opponents.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou can accept his team losing games but he gets frustrated and sometimes angry when his attack-minded philosophy is not carried out.

He spoke of his team being too passive in the FA Cup clash against City and had similar criticisms after Tottenham’s 2-0 loss at Chelsea earlier this month.

Three days after their defeat at Stamford Bridge, Tottenham played with much greater ambition and intent in a 4-2 loss at Liverpool.

It was a performance much more to Postecoglou’s liking and a similar approach can be expected when Spurs take to the field against City.

With Spurs looking to engage higher up the pitch, the scene could be set for a classic encounter.

City will need to be mindful of the Spurs press but they have the players to find a way through and are likely to get plenty of chances to exploit the home side’s shaky defence.

Spurs have conceded 59 league goals this season and have registered only one clean sheet in their last 19 league fixtures.

Their goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, is an excellent shot stopper, but may be powerless to prevent a heavy loss to City, who are full of confidence after Saturday’s 4-0 triumph at Fulham.

City will be tested at the back and may struggle to complete a fourth successive away shutout, but they could emerge as handsome winners in an entertaining, high-scoring game.

Kyle Walker to assist a goal – 7/1

Former Spurs right back Kyle Walker has some fond memories of his six seasons at Tottenham but he will be focusing solely on Manchester City’s title push and could have a key role to play in their penultimate game of the campaign.

Walker turns 34 this month, but he remains one of the quickest players in the Premier League and can be effective at both ends of the pitch.

He is renowned for one-on-one defending, but likes to get forward and has contributed four assists in 30 league appearances this season.

Walker’s raids down the right flank could be especially effective against Tottenham, who are missing injured left backs Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies.

The veteran full back should get into plenty of dangerous positions and looks an overpriced 7/1 shot to add to his assist tally.

Oliver Skipp to be booked - 7/4

Makeshift left back Oliver Skipp was yellow carded in Tottenham’s 2-1 triumph at home to Burnley on Saturday and he looks an overpriced 7/4 shot for a caution against Manchester City.

Tottenham have had massive problems filling the left back position over the last few weeks.

Right-sided defender Emerson Royal started on the left for the defeats away to Chelsea (0-2) and Liverpool (2-4) and was substituted on both occasions after producing dismal performances.

Royal’s struggles forced a rethink from Postecoglou, who asked holding midfielder Skipp to play as a left back for the final 30 minutes at Anfield and from the start against Burnley.

Skipp has done his best to adapt but he had a testing time at the weekend and was booked in the second half.

The 23-year-old can expect a much sterner examination against City and is likely to add to his card collection.
