Liverpool have been unable to find top gear in their two games of the new Women’s Super League season so far, having posted draws against Leicester and West Ham.
The Reds, who finished a creditable fourth last season, should still be hopeful of claiming their first win of the campaign as they head to unbeaten Tottenham.
Liverpool draw no bet - 11/8
With Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal tending to dominate the upper reaches of the Women’s Super League in recent seasons, Liverpool will have been delighted to have finished fourth last season and would have seen this term as a great opportunity to kick on and get closer to the big three.
So it will be with a degree of disappointment that they will look back on their two opening draws against Leicester and West Ham as both of those opponents finished in the bottom three last season.
Tottenham, who the Reds face at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road on Sunday, would put themselves in a similar bracket and on paper it looks as if Robert Vilhamn’s side have had a strong start.
They eased past promoted Crystal Palace in their opener and gained a point at Aston Villa, but digging a little deeper it seems it would be easy to get carried away with their opening performances.
A 4-0 win over the Eagles looks strong but the Championship winners were subsequently beaten 7-0 by champions Chelsea and they look set for a big struggle to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.
And Spurs then needed an injury-time goal from Bethany England to earn a 2-2 draw against Villa, who would have won only their second home win in 15 league games had they managed to hold on.
Liverpool fell to a 2-0 defeat at Manchester United in the League Cup in midweek, but they have been beaten by only Chelsea, City and the Gunners in their last 21 league outings and they look a solid bet on Sunday, if punters look at taking the draw-no-bet option.
Ceri Holland over 0.5 shots on target - 11/8
Despite their decent finishing position, Liverpool scored just 36 goals in their 22 games, which is modest by top WSL standards, and two goals is a disappointing return from their opening two matches of this season.
However, one player who has not been shy at trying her luck is Ceri Holland, who had three shots on target against Leicester and two over goal efforts in the 1-1 draw with West Ham.
That game against the Hammers was the first in 10 WSL starts when the Welsh midfielder has not managed to have a shot on target and she looks a decent price to correct that when she faces Spurs at Brisbane Road.
Lucy Parry to be booked - 4/1
Liverpool wing-back Lucy Parry was used sparingly last season as she acclimatised to life in English women’s football’s top division, but the wingback has made a strong impression since establishing herself as a starter for the Reds.
Parry has yet to pick up her first yellow card in the top flight, but there will be plenty of encouragement to display commitment in the starting line-up and she has committed a total of five fouls in their opening two league matches.
That suggests that her first caution may not be far away and she could be a big price to go into the book during Sunday’s clash.
