Arsenal are back from a successful UEFA Women’s Champions League trip to Juventus and will be confident they can see off Tottenham Hotspur, who are struggling to keep clean sheets.
No team in the Women’s Super League have conceded more goals than Spurs, but they will take heart from the fact they upset the odds last season when they claimed a 1-0 home victory over their arch-rivals.
But with Renee Slegers’s side looking to have put a mixed start to the season behind them, it could prove a tough game for Tottenham, who have won just two of their opening seven WSL matches.
Arsenal to win & over 2.5 goals - 10/11
Saturday is derby day in north London and Tottenham are likely to cling on to the fact that they beat Arsenal at home last season, as they look to boost their underwhelming campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs won their last home game when they beat West Ham in their regular surroundings of Brisbane Road, but they needed a Camila Saez own goal in injury-time to get over the line and they still have big defensive issues.
No team in the women’s top flight have conceded more than their tally of 18 goals in the first seven matches of the campaign and they have not kept a clean sheet since their pedestrian 4-0 win over promoted Crystal Palace on the opening weekend.
Three goals were conceded against both Liverpool and Manchester United before they let in five against Chelsea and another four last time out at Manchester City when they were unable to live with hotshot striker Khadija Shaw, who scored a hat-trick.
Arsenal have also had their issues and are in a state of limbo following the departure of manager Jonas Eidavell, as his interim replacement Slegers has said she does not want the full-time position.
That is despite the Gunners winning four and drawing one of her five games at the helm, and they should be full of beans after a 5-0 win over Brighton in their last league match and an impressive 4-0 victory at Serie A leaders Juventus in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Tuesday.
The visitors look to be back in the groove and can provide a difficult afternoon for the Spurs defence, so take them to win a match that includes at least three goals.
Frida Maanum anytime scorer - 9/4
Norwegian midfielder Frida Maanum has been on target in each of Arsenal’s last two games and she can stretch that run in Saturday’s clash.
Playing just behind striker Alessia Russo, she opened the scoring in Turin having netted her third league goal of the campaign against Brighton four days earlier.
Those performances came just after she scored four times for her national team in a 9-0 Euros play-off win over Albania, so she clearly has her eye in and can do more damage at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Drew Spence to have a shot on target - 7/4
Tottenham forward Drew Spence has not scored since their opening-week win over Crystal Palace, but she can still be a threat to the Gunners.
She has had 15 goal attempts in seven outings and tried her luck four times in each of her team’s defeats to Manchester United and Chelsea.
The derby atmosphere should encourage Spurs to be positive and the Jamaica forward can at least test the Arsenal goalkeeper.
