Tottenham Hotspur are chasing a fourth victory in five UEFA Europa League matches when they host Claudio Ranieri's Roma on Thursday.
Tottenham Hotspur to win & under 3.5 goals @ 21/10
Tottenham Hotspur were pre-season favourites for the UEFA Europa League and they made a strong start to the competition, winning their first three games against Qarabag, Ferencvaros and AZ Alkmaar.
Spurs suffered their first setback in Europe on matchday four as young striker Will Lankshear scored and was then sent off in an incident-packed 3-2 defeat away to Galatasaray.
Thursday's home fixture against Roma is a good opportunity for Ange Postecoglou's men to get back to winning ways in Europe.
They still have some significant injury problems, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the latest addition to the list of absentees, but Postecoglou's side should be full of confidence after Saturday's 4-0 Premier League rout of Manchester City.
Tottenham ended City's 52-match unbeaten run at the Etihad Stadium in superb style, producing a perfect away performance, and they can follow up with a home win over Roma.
The visitors have a familiar face in the dugout as veteran boss Claudio Ranieri, whose Leicester side denied Tottenham the Premier League title in 2015/16, has returned for a third spell at the club.
Ranieri's first game in charge was a 1-0 defeat at Serie A leaders Napoli, with the away side registering only one shot on target, and scoring goals has been a problem for Roma this term.
Their UEFA Europa League results have been underwhelming, with 1-1 draws against Athletic Bilbao and Union Saint Gilloise, a 1-0 loss at Elfsborg and a 1-0 home win over Dynamo Kyiv, clinched by an Artem Dovbyk penalty.
Postecoglou is likely to make changes but he has decent squad depth in midfield and attack so a low-scoring Spurs win could be on the cards.
Lorenzo Pellegrini to have over 1.5 shots @ 4/5
Roma's attacking midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini is yet to score this season so he looks a player to back in the shots rather than the goals market in north London.
Pellegrini is still getting into dangerous positions, averaging 1.8 shots per game in Serie A, and he is worth backing to have at least two attempts at goal against Tottenham.
The Italy international also averaged 1.8 shots per 90 minutes during the Azzurri's disappointing Euros campaign in the summer.
He came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of Roma's UEFA Europa League games against Elfsborg and Dynamo Kyiv but still managed to have five attempts in those two matches.
Last time out in Europe Pellegrini had two shots against Union Saint Gilloise, also providing an assist, and he should be one of Roma's main attacking threats at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Gianluca Mancini to be booked @ 9/4
Three of Tottenham's first four UEFA Europa League matches have featured a red card – two for Spurs and one for AZ Alkmaar – and there are several uncompromising characters in the Roma ranks.
Midfielders Niccolo Pisilli and Bryan Cristante have picked up five and four yellow cards respectively in Serie A this term but centre-back Gianluca Mancini looks the best bet to be booked on Thursday.
The 28-year-old has been cautioned in two of his last five league appearances and was also booked against Switzerland on his only start for Italy at the Euros.
Maninci amassed 38 yellow cards and two reds in his first three league campaigns after signing for Roma in 2019. He has mellowed a little since then but still received nine bookings in 34 Serie A starts last season and may well add to his card collection against Spurs.
