Liverpool continue their Premier League title bid with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday after both clubs enjoyed midweek EFL Cup quarter-final victories.

Tottenham and Liverpool will be familiar foes over the next couple of months after being drawn against each other in a two-legged EFL Cup semi-final.

The Reds beat the Premier League's bottom club Southampton 2-1 in Wednesday's quarter-final before Spurs claimed a chaotic 4-3 victory over Manchester United the following evening.

That game showcased the best and the worst of Ange Postecoglou's side, who led 3-0 early in the second half before two goalkeeping howlers from Fraser Forster set up a tense finish.

Forster, deputising for the injured Guglielmo Vicario, has a makeshift back four in front of him as first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are also sidelined.

That defensive disruption is not helping Tottenham's quest for consistency and their last 10 Premier League matches have produced five defeats, four wins and a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham.

They lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just before November's international break but roared back with a 4-0 win away to Manchester City.

That pattern was repeated in their last two outings - a 4-3 home defeat to Chelsea and a 5-0 rout of Southampton at St Mary's - and they may struggle to keep Liverpool quiet on Sunday.

Backing a Liverpool win and both teams to score looks a good bet, having paid out in three of the last four meetings between these clubs.

The Reds, top of the standings in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, have not looked entirely secure at the back recently, drawing 3-3 at Newcastle and 2-2 at home to Fulham, when left-back Andy Robertson was sent off in the first 20 minutes.

They also conceded in league and cup wins at struggling Southampton and Spurs certainly have the potential to hurt the Reds' rearguard, but the hosts are unlikely to contain a Liverpool forward line inspired by the in-form Mohamed Salah.

Centre-back Jonny Evans scored Manchester United's third goal against Tottenham on Thursday night, heading in a late corner.

Spurs also struggled to defend set-pieces in last month's 2-2 UEFA Europa League draw at home to Roma, whose goals were scored by defenders Evan Ndicka and Mats Hummels.

Gianluca Mancini, another Roma centre-back, had a late volley from a corner brilliantly saved by Forster and Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool's main aerial threat, is worth backing to score on Sunday.

Van Dijk often makes his mark in big games, scoring in October's 2-2 draw at Arsenal and having three efforts at goal in this month's 2-0 home win over Man City.

He struck an extra-time winner in last season's EFL Cup final against Chelsea, notched in this term's UEFA Champions League opener against AC Milan and should be confident of getting chances against a disorganised home defence.

Destiny Udogie to be booked @ 21/10

Lilywhites boss Postecoglou expects to have left-back Destiny Udogie available for Sunday's showdown after he missed the cup win against Man Utd.

The Italy international, who went off injured during last weekend's rout of Southampton, can expect a testing afternoon against Liverpool winger Salah and marauding right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Udogie was booked in this season's defeats at home to Arsenal and away to Brighton, where Spurs surrendered a 2-0 half-time lead.

Tottenham received nine yellow cards in last term's league meetings with Liverpool, including one for Udogie in an ill-tempered clash in north London and he is a tempting price to be booked again.
