Tottenham Hotspur v Brentford: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Tottenham Hotspur need to find some consistency if they are to be top-four contenders this season and they will see victory at home to Brentford as something of an imperative.

It's been an up-and-down start for Ange Postecoglou's men, who are reeling from back-to-back Premier League defeats at the hands of Newcastle and Arsenal.

And the Bees might be 9/2 underdogs, but they are two points better off than Spurs - with their only defeats so far on the road at Liverpool and Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur v Brentford betting tips and predictions

Over 3.5 Goals - 11/10

Spurs have won only one of their last four Premier League showdowns with Brentford, but the one thing that all four matches have produced is goals and that looks likely to be the case again on Saturday.

Each of the four fixtures between these London rivals over the past two seasons have produced at least four goals.

And, given the attacking intent shown by both these teams, over 3.5 goals at 11/10 looks like the right way into this clash.

The Lilywhites under Postecoglou are unashamedly attack-minded, averaging almost 16 shots per game, a record bettered by only three other clubs.

Brentford are averaging just over 11, but the caveat there is that their two away games have been at Liverpool and Manchester City, where they impressed for periods, but were never going to pile up the chances.

Indeed, City boss Pep Guardiola predicted only big things for Bees' boss Thomas Frank following last Saturday's clash at the Etihad which the champions won 2-1.

Frank is a master tactician and he will set up his side to trouble Spurs, who can be opened up because of the positive way in which they play.

And that's not going to change. The hosts will go to the end chasing goals, as they had to at Coventry in the League Cup on Wednesday night when they needed late efforts from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson to secure a face-saving 2-1 triumph.

Dominic Solanke to score - 13/10

Spurs have got sumptuous attacking riches at their disposal to unleash on any given weekend, which is why it's so frustrating that apart from the 4-0 win over Everton they have struggled to work opposition goalkeepers.

The pace of the likes of Son Heung-min, Timo Werner and Johnson will terrify most defences, Dejan Kulusevski is a direct winger who likes to cut in and shoot and James Maddison has all the tricks in the book.

What they lack is the frontman Harry Kane was, which is why they tend to look more focused and with a better shape whenever summer signing Dominic Solanke leads the line.

Solanke has only managed to start twice in a frustrating start to his Spurs career, but in those two games he has fired off five shots and been a menace.

This Spurs side, with the creativity they possess, will supply chances and Solanke will be taking those opportunities soon, so it's a fair bet at 13/10 that he can break his duck against Brentford.

Over 12 corners - 5/4

Even in defeat at home by Arsenal last weekend, a 1-0 loss at the hands of one of the best defences in England, Spurs still managed to chalk up seven corners.

In their previous home game in the Premier League they landed 12 corners in the 4-0 win over Everton.

In four games played they have amassed an eye-watering 44 corners while conceding 20.

The visitors will know the value of set-pieces of their own given how questionable home keeper Guglielmo Vicario can be with crosses, and good delivery at dead balls has long been an important feature of how the Bees go for goals.

Brentford have won 13 corners so far, but do not lose sight of the fact that their two road trips thus far have been at Liverpool and Manchester City. In total their matches are averaging 12 corners a time.

Everything about Spurs smacks of positivity which should be reflected in yet another sky-high corner count. Back over 12 corners at 5/4.
