Three players that Liverpool should sign in the summer transfer window

Arne Slot's Liverpool have massively exceeded expectations in the 2024/25 campaign and are well on their way to a 20th league title.

That said, both Arsenal and Manchester City amongst others are expected to provide firm competition in the 2025/26 Premier League season, and comments from Arne Slot and Virgil van Dijk suggest that the Reds will be looking to strengthen their side in the summer transfer window.

We take a look at three players that Liverpool should sign in the upcoming transfer window.

Premier League

Milos Kerkez

Club: Bournemouth
Position: Left-back
Age: 21

Signing for Bournemouth prior to the start of the 2023/24 campaign, Milos Kerkez has rapidly become one of the best left-backs the Premier League has to offer.

Andrew Robertson has undoubtedly been a remarkable servant since joining from Hull City in 2017, making a mockery of his £8m transfer fee. That said, the Scotsman appears to have slowed down in the 2024/25 term, and it would be no surprise to see Liverpool recruit a new left-back.

A relentless runner with a knack for creating chances, it's clear to see why the Reds are reported admirers of Kerkez, and it's hard to look past the Hungarian when assessing options in the market for left-backs.

While Jurgen Klopp often preferred to have his full-backs in extremely advanced areas, often surpassing the wingers, Slot has seemingly opted for a more balanced approach.

By no means does this restrict his full-backs from providing width in attacking areas, but it allows them to be better placed for defending transitions.

Kerkez seems a perfect fit for Liverpool, personifying energy and demonstrating clear technical ability at just 21 years old, and for a fee reported to be around the £40m mark, it could be a no-brainer.

Dean Huijsen

Club: Bournemouth
Position: Central defender
Age: 20

Bournemouth may have a hard task in fending off interest for their prized assets this summer, especially when it comes to Dean Huijsen.

In recent weeks, we have learnt that the Spanish international has a £50m release clause in place this summer, a fee regarded financially feasible for a number of sides given the current state of the market.

Liverpool are one of many potential suitors for Huisen, but why are the Reds so keen to secure the signature of the central defender?

Well, at just 20 years old Huijsen has demonstrated an immense ability to read the game, as well as possessing supreme capabilities on the ball, proven by the fact that he is in the top 10th percentile amongst centre backs for key passes, passes into the final third and long passes completed.

Liverpool face uncertainty heading into the summer transfer window in regards to central defenders. While Virgil van Dijk is expected to extend his deal at the club, Ibrahima Konate has just one year left on his contract, while Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah are likely to attract interest from other clubs.

The signing of Huijsen would not just be for the now, but for the future, and Liverpool should be doing everything they can to get it over the line.

Alexander Isak

Club: Newcastle
Position: Striker
Age: 25

While it would be rare to find a club that doesn't admire Alexander Isak, Liverpool could be one of the few that could have the finances to pull off the signing of the Swedish centre forward.

Change is expected in the forward department for the Reds this summer, with the futures of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota up in the air.

In an ideal world for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah can put up remarkable numbers in the coming years, but there is no guarantee of this and the 'Egyptian King' may require further support if the Reds are to compete for major honours once again next campaign.

Only Salah has scored more goals than Isak in the Premier League this term, and the Swede would undoubtedly take the Reds' attack to a scarily high level.

Whether Liverpool decided to break the bank on arguably the world's most complete centre forward is yet to be seen, but it's a signing that could give Slot's side the edge over Arsenal and Man City heading into the 2025/26 season.
