Thomas Tuchel start date and potential first match as England manager

Following Thomas Tuchel's appointment as the 20th manager of the England national team in October, the Football Association announced the German would not begin work in the role until January 2025.

Caretaker England manager Lee Carsley has thus remained in charge to complete England's involvement in the UEFA Nations League, with the Three Lions aiming to achieve promotion back to League A.

Thomas Tuchel start date

Thomas Tuchel will officially begin working as England manager from 1st January 2025.

The ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager's delayed start in the role is said to be due to the FA's desire for Tuchel to have a clean slate in the job following the culmination of this autumn's UEFA Nations League.

Signing an 18-month contract, Tuchel's full focus will be on inspiring England to glory at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Thomas Tuchel first match in charge

Taking charge of England on 1st January 2025, Thomas Tuchel's first match as manager will be the Three Lions' opening World Cup 2026 qualifier scheduled for March 2025.

UEFA's draw for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers will take place on Friday 13th December 2024 in Zurich.

The 2026 World Cup qualifiers amongst UEFA nations will take place between March 2025 and November 2025, with the top ranked team from each section automatically qualifying and the runners-up entering play-offs.
