Switzerland manager

Murat Yakin

Former Switzerland centre-back Murat Yakin is the current manager of the Swiss national side after taking the reins in 2021.

Following a playing career that included spells at Stuttgart, Fenerbahce and Basel, Yakin went on to manage Basel and Spartak Moscow.

Yakin was appointed Switzerland manager in August 2021 and is preparing for his first major tournament in charge of the national side.

Switzerland captain

Granit Xhaka

With 125 caps for his country, Swiss skipper Granit Xhaka has a wealth of experience to draw on as he prepares to lead his nation at Euro 2024.

Xhaka made his name at Borussia Monchengladbach before a seven-year spell in the Premier League with Arsenal, and the combative midfielder, who is now at Bayer Leverkusen, will be a key figure in the middle of the park for the Swiss.

After helping Leverkusen win a maiden Bundesliga title this season, Xhaka will be hoping he can transfer his club success to the national side this summer.

Switzerland key players

Xherdan Shaqiri

With only two caps fewer than skipper Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri is the second-most experienced player available to Switzerland boss Yakin.

A winger who seems to have been around for an age, Shaqiri is still only 32 and has at least a few more seasons in him yet.

Currently plying his trade in MLS with Chicago Fire, the former Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Liverpool wide man will be a key figure in the final third for Switzerland this summer.

Manuel Akanji

Having helped Manchester City win the Premier League again last season, Manuel Akanji will be hoping to savour further success with Switzerland at Euro 2024.

A clever central defender who has been playing at the highest level for City for the last few seasons, Akanji’s quality can help Switzerland progress in Germany.

Yann Sommer

Every team at the European Championship will need a reliable goalkeeper and Swiss custodian Yann Sommer is certainly that.

The Inter Milan keeper has been the Nerazzurri's first-choice shotstopper this season and will be a key figure between the sticks for the A-Team.

Switzerland one to watch

Noah Okafor

A forward who looks to have a very bright future ahead of him, Noah Okafor is certainly a player to look out for this summer.

The AC Milan attacker has impressed in Serie A this season, with his pace and dribbling abilities causing no end of problems for sides in the Italian top flight.

Not afraid to take on defenders at any opportunity, Okafor will hope to take the next step in his development at Euro 2024.

Qualifying for the knockout stages will be the minimum requirement for Swiss supporters at this summer's European Championship.

Switzerland reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 and a similar performance might well be on the cards in Germany, where they are housed alongside the tournament hosts, Hungary and Scotland in the group stage.
