Switzerland v Italy Prediction, Tips and Odds: Ndoye to threaten Azzurri goal

The Italian national football team has been on a rollercoaster ride since winning the last Euros and could come unstuck when they face Switzerland in the last 16.

Coach Luciano Spalletti was parachuted into the role after Roberto Mancini resigned last August and has had to overcome several crises.

The 65-year-old is still to settle on a formation and will have to make do without suspended defender Riccardo Calafiori for Saturday's clash in Berlin.

Spalletti's opposite number, Murat Yakin, has also continually tweaked his tactics, but his alterations have been by design, making changes to nullify his team's opponents.

The Rossocrociati beat France in the second round of the last Euros and could cause another upset at the Olympiastadion.

Switzerland to qualify - 11/10

Holders Italy endured a chaotic year in the build-up to their defence, but Spalletti looked to have got things together as his team dominated proceedings despite going behind early on in their opening 2-1 win over Albania.

The Azzurri were then blasted by Spain, with the 1-0 scoreline flattering them and were then lucky to draw 1-1 against Croatia courtesy of Mattia Zaccagni's 98th-minute equaliser, which sealed qualification from Group B.

Switzerland excelled in their opening 3-1 win over Hungary and the narrative from their 1-1 draw with Scotland on matchday two was that the Scots were much improved, meaning it was almost forgotten that the Rossocrociati had two goals ruled out for offside and squandered several other chances.

They were then the better team in their 1-1 draw against Germany, only missing out on top seeding in Group A after conceding a 92nd-minute Niclas Fullkrug header.

A look at the history book suggests it would be foolhardy to expect an open game, with 15 of Italy's last 26 knockout matches at major international tournaments requiring extra-time.

Meanwhile, both of Switzerland's knockout games three years ago also went to penalties, beating France in the last 16 before losing to Spain.

Their victory against Les Blues was one of the shocks of the last tournament and they could edge another neighbour on Saturday.

Granit Xhaka to be booked - 7/4

A feisty clash could lead to a midfield battle, with Swiss captain Granit Xhaka likely to be in the thick of the action.

Since leaving Arsenal and returning to Germany, the 31-year-old has been reborn, helping Bayer Leverkusen in their unbeaten run to the domestic double and Europa League final.

Xhaka received a caution against the Germans for going over the ball while trying to peg back Jamal Musiala and will have few qualms about bringing another opponent down to stem the Italians' flow.

His engine room duel with Nicolo Barella will be fascinating and it would be no surprise to see the Swiss skipper receive his second yellow card of the competition.

Dan Ndoye over 0.5 shots on target - 13/8

Swiss winger Dan Ndoye has been one of the finds of the tournament and netted his first international goal against Germany.

That was one of two shots on target so far at the Euros and he has been happy to try his luck, tallying nine attempts.

Ndoye is one of several Swiss stars who ply their trade in Italy, featuring alongside Remo Freuler and Michel Aebischer at Bologna and excelled in I Rossoblu's successful push for a Champions League finish.

The 23-year-old's versatility means he is sure to feature from the start and he is a good price to test Gianluigi Donnarumma at least once.
