Stockport County bounced back from a 5-0 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers by seeing off Bolton Wanderers by the same scoreline and they will be confident they can make up some more ground in the League One promotion race by beating Wrexham.
Their Welsh visitors, who were promoted alongside League Two champions County last season, are third in the table after some strong results at the Racecourse Ground, but Phil Parkinson’s side have had their issues on the road.
Stockport County to win - 23/20
Both Stockport County and Wrexham have made solid starts to their quests for successive promotions, but it could be the Hatters who claim the points when they meet at Edgeley Park on Saturday.
Dave Challinor’s team have been difficult to get right recently, as they bounced back from a surprising 5-0 home defeat by Wycombe Wanderers to claim a success by the same scoreline against Bolton Wanderers just a few days later.
So there looks a decent chance the reverse against the Chairboys was a freak result, especially as County claimed a 4-1 victory over Reading in the preceding home game and the pressure is on their visitors, who will not need reminding that they suffered a 5-0 defeat the last time they visited.
Phil Parkinson’s team have lost two of their 14 League One games and head into the weekend third in the table, but despite an encouraging 1-0 win over Mansfield last week, they are relying a lot on their home form.
The Dragons have posted just one win in five away games, and while they were perhaps unfortunate to be pegged back by an injury-time penalty when they drew 2-2 at Charlton recently, that is a concern.
They will expect to hit Stockport on the counter-attack but they may not be able to soak up waves of pressure, so the value appears to lie in backing the home side to gain their fifth home success of the campaign.
Louie Barry anytime scorer - 21/10
Stockport are the third-highest goalscorers in League One and a big part in that has been played by on-loan striker Louie Barry.
The 21-year-old will be hoping to make an impression for Premier League Aston Villa before too long and he is certainly fashioning a big name for himself this season as he is joint leader of the third-tier goalscoring charts with 10.
Barry has been on the mark in three of his last four appearances at Edgeley Park and has posted 21 shots on target in 14 league starts for the Hatters.
He was at County last season during their League Two title-winning season and it will not go unnoticed that he has adapted well to playing at a higher level this term.
Wrexham could struggle to keep him at bay and he looks a good price at 21/10 to add at least another Stockport goal to his collection.
George Dobson to be booked - 9/4
George Dobson has been a strong addition to the Wrexham midfield after joining in the summer from Charlton and is becoming a key figure in the Dragons line-up.
He is, however, prone to giving away fouls as seen by the fact he has been whistled 28 times in 14 league outings for the Welsh outfit.
Dobson has been flirting with gaining a fifth yellow card for a few weeks - such an occurrence would see him serve a one-match suspension - and he was also cautioned in their 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Harrogate.
He can be relied upon to be at the heart of the action and this could finally be the match where the former Sunderland player earns himself a week off.
