Charlton Athletic , who sit just two points behind Stockport County and hold a game in hand, have won four of their last five League One outings as they look for a strong run-in, but the hosting Hatters have a fantastic record at home over recent months and will be a tough nut to crack for Nathan Jones’ side on Saturday.
Both teams to score - 19/20
Charlton won for the eighth time in 10 League One matches against Barnsley on Tuesday as they continued their rise up the ranks, but they head to Edgeley Park on Saturday as underdogs against a Stockport side that knows how to find the back of the net.
The Hatters have failed to score in just 12 per cent of their league fixtures this season and they haven’t drawn a blank at home since a shock 5-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers back at the start of November.
They have scored 20 goals in their 10 league assignments here since that loss and look good value for a goal or two, but it’s unlikely they can keep the in-form Addicks out at the other end.
Jones’ visitors have scored in 11 of their last 12 in all competitions, only failing to strike against the division’s best defence in Birmingham City. They have netted 20 times in this run, including nine goals in six away days.
Both teams to score has landed in five of these six trips, and they haven’t failed to find the net against Stockport in any of their last eight meetings, so expect goals at both ends at Edgeley Park.
Matt Godden to score anytime - 10/3
Matt Godden is expected to lead the line for Charlton on Saturday and the 33-year-old looks good value to add to his first double-figure tally since his 12-goal haul for Coventry City in 2021/22.
Godden has averaged a goal every 167 minutes in the third tier this season and seven of these have been scored in his 17 starts as his side’s lone striker.
He has scored in four of his last eight starts in League One and half of his goals this term have come since the turn of the year.
Match goals range 2-3 - 20/21
October’s reverse fixture at The Valley ended 1-1 and we could be in for a similar amount of goals on Saturday.
Stockport and Charlton’s home and away games this season have averaged 2.71 and 2.56 goals per game respectively and each of the Hatters’ last six League One outings have ended with either two or three goals being scored.
Seven of their last eight at Edgeley Park have gone the same way, while six of Charlton’s last 10 league games have also contained two or three goals, including their most recent away trip to Leyton Orient.
