St Mirren v Hibernian: Prediction, Tips and Odds

St Mirren play host to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, with the two sides having enjoyed vastly differing fortunes in recent weeks.

The Buddies have lost their last five of their last six league games, failing to score in four of those, while last Monday they were beaten on penalties by Hearts in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

In contrast, Hibs have recovered from a dismal start to the season to put together an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions, with the Edinburgh outfit now in fifth place and within striking distance of third.

However, the recent head-to-head record suggests that the hosts cannot be taken lightly as they are unbeaten in four against Hibs and won both meetings of these two sides earlier this season, including a 3-0 victory at St Mirren Park on the opening weekend.

Both teams to score - 4/5

Although the hosts have found goals hard to come by in recent games, the last seven meetings between these two sides have delivered three goals or more and both teams have scored in five of those seven match-ups.

Hibs may be unbeaten in their last nine league outings, but they have only kept two clean sheets during that run and one of those was against an Aberdeen side whose form has dropped off the face of a cliff.

Prior to their run of five league defeats in six and a loss of goalscoring form, the Buddies netted seven times in three successive Premiership victories over St Johnstone, Ross County and Rangers, while their one recent success was a 3-0 win at Aberdeen, so they should certainly carry a threat on Sunday.

Hibernian to win - 5/4

While St Mirren have been something of a bogey side for Hibernian in recent times, the current form of both teams makes it hard to overlook an away win at odds against.

Stephen Robinson's men have lost five of their last six league games, while they have been beaten in four of their last five at St Mirren Park, which includes defeats to both 10th-placed Dundee and bottom-of-the-table St Johnstone.

Hibs' 11-game unbeaten run has obviously seen an improvement in their away form, with just one defeat suffered in their last six games on the road - and that was at leaders Celtic.

All three of their away successes this season have come during this run and David Gray's men now boast the fourth best away record in the Scottish Premiership.

The momentum belongs with the visitors on Sunday and they can end their losing run against the Buddies and cement their place in the top six.

Nectarios Triantis to score anytime - 14/1

Hibs are the joint-third highest scorers in the Premiership with 37 goals from their 25 games, but it is fair to say they spread the goals around with Martin Boyle their top scorer with seven league goals, followed by Nicky Cadden's tally of five.

Cadden offers a bit more value at 5/1 to find the net, but at an even bigger price, Sunderland loanee Nectarios Triantis looks appealing having added a goalscoring touch to his game.

Perhaps more renowned for his defensive abilities, the 21-year-old has recently been making his mark at the other end of the pitch, with his three goals for the season having all come in his last six league games.

He is now the club's fourth-highest scorer while his three recent assists see him tie for the lead in that category as well.

Throw in eight yellow cards and one red and he is likely to be making his mark one way or another on Sunday, but he looks tempting to find the net at 14/1.
