St Mirren v Celtic: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Any thoughts of a Celtic title wobble after the shock loss at Hibernian were well and truly put to bed by the Hoops' 5-1 demolition of Aberdeen on Tuesday night.

Now they will be looking to back up that result by beating St Mirren, a team they have made light work of over the last two seasons.

St Mirren v Celtic betting tips and predictions

Celtic to win & Over 2.5 Goals - 5/6

Celtic have already beaten St Mirren in Paisley once this season, a routine 3-0 victory back in August.

Two months ago the teams met again in Glasgow and the dose was repeated with Celtic easing to another 3-0 success.

The Celtic/Celtic Half Time/Full Time bet copped both times; so too did Celtic winning both halves.

And, of course, Celtic & Over 2.5 Goals delivered and can do so again.

This is a fixture that does not seem to overly trouble the champions. They also met five times last season - on four occasions in the Premiership, once in the Scottish Cup - and Celtic won the lot.

They can expect some resistance from Stephen Robinson's men with his side locked in a fascinating battle with Hearts and Motherwell for getting the right side of the end-of-term split.

And for proof that they can cut it with the Old Firm sides, they have beaten Rangers twice since Christmas.

However, they were beaten 3-1 at Hearts on Wednesday night to cede sixth place to the victors and they looked out on their feet by the final whistle. The Buddies have also failed to win any of their last five home games in all competitions.

There will be no shortage of effort from St Mirren, but they average half as many shots on target per game than Celtic and are acutely aware that if they aren't going to find the net, the chances are they will lose because the champions have failed to score in only two Premiership outings in the last 12 months.

This has been a tough three weeks for Celtic following their heartbreaking UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich and the 2-1 loss at Hibernian.

But they outclassed Aberdeen on Tuesday night, their attacking options are many and in form and they have had an extra day to prepare for this than their hosts.

Joao Pedro Jota Anytime Goalscorer - 13/8

Celtic fans thought they'd said farewell to winger Jota when he left the club for Saudi Arabia in July 2023.

But after a stint in the desert and then with Rennes in Ligue 1, the Portuguese star is back in Scotland and has hit the ground running.

Jota and Celtic Park just looks like a perfect fit and he has certainly pepped up the champions' attacking options when they needed it most at this demanding time of a hectic schedule.

He scored against Aberdeen on Tuesday night, his third goal in five appearances since arriving from France.

He is averaging 1.8 shots per game, is tricky to stop, has that eye for goal and looks a nice fit at 13/8 in the anytime scorer betting market.

Over 6.5 Celtic Corners - 4/5

How this game unfolds is largely predictable given Celtic boast 75 percent possession over the course of the Premiership season and St Mirren just 41.

That imbalance is reflected in the corner counts these teams boast, with Celtic averaging 9.1 corners per game, the Buddies 4.6.

And in the two league contests between the teams this season, Celtic won the corner head-to-head 10-2 away and 8-3 at home. They had no need to chase either game they were so in control, yet still piled up the corners.

That they clear 6.5 at St Mirren Park this weekend looks close to inevitable.
