Celtic were dealt a major blow this week as Matt O’Riley inched closer to a deal to move to Brighton but on the field the Bhoys’ games have been going swimmingly.

The Hoops have won seven matches in a row in all competitions and have barely needed to get out of second gear domestically thus far.

They are a short price to retain their Scottish Premiership title and the real test of how far the squad has progressed may well come in their first Champions League games of the season.

The Bhoys recorded back-to-back wins without conceding before a 3-1 victory over Hibs in the League Cup last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers’ men also have a strong record against St Mirren, winning the last five meetings between the two and going unbeaten in the last nine. 

Three of their last four wins came without conceding and they should be able to repeat the trick when they face the Saints this time around.

The home team’s European endeavours may well have stretched the squad thin and they have a considerable number of injury issues for this clash.

Caolan Boyd-Munce and Dennis Adeniran missed last weekend's game against Dundee United, joining Connor McMenamin, Greg Kiltie and Mark O'Hara as absentees.

St Mirren have now lost three games in a row and may struggle to lay a glove on a top-level Celtic side.

The Buddies beat Hibs 3-0 in their first league game but the effect of four European games in less than a month has started to tell.

They were beaten 3-1 by Aberdeen in the league before being edged 1-0 by Dundee United last weekend in the League Cup.

With a fully-fit squad getting a result against either Celtic or Rangers would be a good achievement but with the injury concerns that the hosts have it’s hard to fancy them.

Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn appeared to struggle in his first season in Scottish football but the German has looked like a player transformed this time around.

After an impressive run in pre-season, the wide man has now netted in all three games that the Bhoys have played this term. 

He has likely nailed down his place in the starting lineup and he is fancied to get on the scoresheet once againon Sunday.

Alex Gogic to be shown a card - 21/10

Alex Gogic is a veteran of Scottish football and is likely to lead St Mirren into this clash, lining up among the three central defenders.

The physical Cypriot faces a tough afternoon marshalling a defence that will have to deal with Celtic’s potent attack and is fancied to be shown a card in this game.

Gogic was booked seven times last season for St Mirren and was also cautioned in both the home and away legs of their recent Conference League qualifier against Brann.

The 30-year-old was booked when playing against the Bhoys last season and looks likely to fall to the same fate again.
