Having only just survived relegation from the Scottish Premiership last season, St Johnstone will be eager to make a positive start to the 2024/25 campaign when they host Aberdeen on Monday night.
Missing out on the relegation play-off thanks to a superior goal difference to Ross County, Saints boss Craig Levein has had the summer to plot his side’s progress as they look to stay clear of trouble this time around.
Aberdeen meanwhile have turned to Swedish manager Jimmy Thelin after what was a failed experiment to bring Neil Warnock to Pittodrie last season.
Having impressed in the Allsvenskan with Elfsborg, Thelin looks ready for this new challenge in the Granite City and first up is a trip down the east coast to Perth.
Draw - 21/10
There has been little to choose from between these sides in recent years and another cagey affair is expected when these teams go head-to-head on Monday night at McDiarmid Park.
These teams faced off on four occasions in the Premiership last season and two of those finished in stalemates, while Saints and the Dons claimed a win apiece.
Goals have also been at a premium in this fixture over recent years, with under 2.5 total goals being scored in 20 of their last 21 meetings.
With both sides potentially rusty at the start of this new Premiership campaign, another low-scoring draw might well be on the cards.
The last meeting between these sides at McDiarmid Park ended in a 1-1 draw and the same scoreline to occur on Monday night is available at 5/1.
However, the more conservative approaching is to back the draw, which is still available at an attractive 21/10 for this clash in Perth.
Half-Time/Full-Time - Draw/Draw - 4/1
Those looking for more value in the Half-Time/Full-Time result market could do worse than considering the scores to be even at both the break and at the final whistle.
Looking back on those two draws between the teams in the Premiership last season, a goalless draw was played out at Pittodire, before a 1-1 stalemate at McDiarmid Park in their following encounter.
In both those matches the scorelines were level at half-time and full-time and there’s 4/1 to be had for the same to occur in Monday night’s showdown.
Bojan Miovski anytime goalscorer - 7/4
There has been plenty of speculation regarding the future of Bojan Miovski after he impressed at Aberdeen last season.
The North Macedonia striker’s efforts on the east coast of Scotland have certainly not gone unnoticed, with reports claiming the forward is the subject of a £3million bid from La Liga side Espanyol.
There is also believed to be interest in the 24-year-old from Italy, with Serie A duo Bologna and Genoa also keeping tabs on his situation at Pittodrie.
Thelin has looked to downplay the speculation in the build-up to Monday’s game in Perth and has stated Miovski has been fully focused on the game at hand.
The Dons boss has suggested Miovski could even start the match and he’s a player who is certainly worth considering in the anytime goalscorer market.
Miovski played three times against St Johnstone last season and scored in two of those games, both times from the penalty spot.
A threat from open play as well as from the spot, Miovski is likely to have plenty of backers at 7/4 to open his Premiership scoring encounter in Aberdeen’s first league game of the season.
Whether it could be his last goal for the Dons remains to be seen.
