Spain v Northern Ireland: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Spain made light work of Andorra in their penultimate European Championship warm-up match on Wednesday and will expect to be just as ruthless against Northern Ireland before heading off to Germany.

Luis de la Fuente's men were 5-0 winners over Andorra and won't be expecting any scares against Michael O'Neill's Northern Ireland, ranked 65 places below them in Fifa's list.

The match takes place at the San Moix in Palma de Mallorca, with the Irish then going on to play Andorra in another friendly in Murcia on Tuesday.

Spain v Northern Ireland betting tips and predictions

Spain & Over 3.5 Goals - 20/21

Luis de la Fuente, unhappy with how his team played for long periods in the 5-0 romp against Andorra, is planning to put out close to his strongest team in Palma - and that spells trouble for Northern Ireland.

Sources close to the Spanish camp are convinced De la Fuente wants to give his star men starts, which means the likes of Dani Carvajal and Rodri should be lining up against O'Neill's side.

Clearly Spain won't want to take risks with fitness and injuries in the run-up to Germany, but the likely scenario is that La Roja keep plenty of the ball - 75 per cent and upwards - and create plenty of chances.

And while there are those who question whether Spain have the forward power to land sufficient blows to conquer Europe over the next month, they should have enough to make light work of Northern Ireland.

Spain were poor against Andorra for a half - yet still went on to score five.

And it was their adaptability which was impressive, starting with Alvaro Morata at the top of an orthodox three before Mikel Oyarzabal came on at half-time and played a 'false nine' role, bagging a hat-trick.

Northern Ireland are a better and more stubborn opponent than Andorra, but are still ranked 65 places below their hosts and the game is of symbolic meaning to the visitors rather than anything truly important.

Only two men - veterans Jonny Evans and Josh Magennis - have scored more than two international goals in the Northern Ireland squad.

They will be set up to play without the ball as they have done with success in their last three matches, wins over Denmark and Scotland and a 1-1 draw with Romania.

They had under 30 per cent possession against the Danes and Romanians, just 18 per cent against Scotland.

The Spain win to nil is massively appealing at 4/6, but Spain to win and over 3.5 goals at 20/21 appeals more.

Rodri to score at anytime - 7/2

Rodri heads for the Euros on the back of a stunning season for Manchester City, helping Pep Guardiola's men land yet another Premier League title.

He will also be a key figure in Spain's midfield and is utterly invaluable to Luis de la Fuente especially with so many youngsters around him.

One of Rodri's assets this season has been his ability to get in and around the box and chip in with goals. He has bagged nine for City this season plus two more for Spain in a 3-3 draw with Brazil in March.

Spain may have a few concerns about their forwards, but Rodri can demonstrate his worth by finding the net, both in Germany and against Northern Ireland in their send-off friendly.

Dani Carvajal Over 0.5 Shots on Target - 9/4

If, as expected, Spain are going to be dominant in possession, then it follows they will create scoring chances.

And that brings less likely candidates into the frame in the shots and shots on target markets.

Dani Carvajal, for example, Spain's Real Madrid right-back, who we know has a shot on target in him having scored against Borussia Dortmund in last Saturday's Champions League final success.

That was one of six goals he scored throughout the season and at 9/4 that he simply tests the keeper looks an eye-catching quote.
