Spain v Germany Prediction, Tips and Odds: Williams to strike for Spain

Spain are the only team with a perfect record at the Euros and they can progress to the semi-finals at the expense of hosts Germany, who are preparing for their first major tournament quarter-final in eight years.

There has been an upturn in performance from Germany, who are unbeaten in eight and seemingly heading in the right direction under head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

But they face a tougher test against Spain, who have shown very few signs of weakness since beginning their campaign with a 3-0 triumph over Croatia.

The Iberians were semi-finalists at Euro 2020 - going down on penalties to Italy - but have lifted the trophy on three occasions.

Spain will be aiming even higher this summer and are 13/8 to defeat Germany in normal time and 4/5 to progress. Germany are 7/4 to advance without need of extra-time and 1/1 to reach the final four.

Spain to win - 13/8

Spain have been making smooth progress at Euro 2024 and they can pass their biggest test by defeating the tournament hosts in Stuttgart.

Luis de la Fuente’s side are the only team to have won all four of their matches and there has been nothing fortunate about their successes.

Rewind to the 2022 World Cup and La Roja were a team seemingly obsessed with possession and lacking a cutting edge up front.

These days they are a much better balanced side and are packing a punch in the final third.

Spain are top of Euro 2024’s XG and total shot metrics with respective numbers of 10.07 and 82.

They have also looked solid at the back and have conceded just one goal, which is the joint-lowest in the competition alongside France.

However, while France’s strong defensive record has been achieved with a cautious approach, Spain are playing each of their matches with an attacking mindset.

And La Roja’s positive play is likely to unsettle Germany, who have been used to coming up against counter-attacking tactics.

Germany have largely dominated their games and are second in the competition’s possession statistics with an average of 65.8 per cent.

But they were given a surprisingly tough game by Denmark in the round of 16 and may struggle to progress any further.

Denmark were undone by a combination of poor finishing and a tight offside call.

However, Spain are capable of showing a more ruthless edge in the decisive moments and they can succeed where the Scandinavians failed.

Nico Williams to score at any time - 4/1

Lively Spain attacker Nico Williams has attracted plenty of attention with his impressive performances this summer and he can play a match-winning role against Germany.

Barcelona and Liverpool are two of the clubs reportedly attempting to prise Williams away from Athletic Bilbao, but they might need to act quickly before the price-tag rises any higher.

The pacy 21-year-old contributed five goals and 11 assists in La Liga last season and has delivered a goal and an assist at Euro 2024.

Williams was on target in Spain’s 4-1 victory over Georgia on Sunday and he looks an overpriced 4/1 shot to add to his tally in Stuttgart.

Robert Andrich to be carded - 5/2

Robert Andrich enjoys his role as Germany’s midfield destroyer, but his combative style could get him into trouble against a technically proficient Spain side.

The Bayer Leverkusen man is used to playing within teams who dominate the ball, but that may not be the case on Friday evening.

Spain are likely to have spells of control and that could lead to frustration and indiscretion from Andrich, who looks a worthwhile 5/2 wager to collect his second card of the tournament.
