Relegation looks like only a matter of time for Southampton, who are 14 points adrift of Premier League safety with 10 games left to play.
Ivan Juric's side took a shock lead at Liverpool last Saturday but subsided to a 3-1 defeat and have been beaten in 10 of their last 11 league fixtures.
Given the extent of Saints' problems there will be expectations on visitors Wolves to pick up maximum points and improve their survival hopes in the process.
It has been a tough season for the men from Molineux, who have not been higher than 17th at any stage.
However, they are on course to survive and kicked off the month with a solid 1-1 draw at home to Everton.
Wolves to win - 21/20
Improving Wolves have accrued seven points from their last five matches and they can take a big step towards safety by defeating Southampton at St Mary’s.
No Premier League club had a more difficult start to the season than Wolves, who took one point from their opening eight games and were propping up the standings at that point.
Performances eventually improved and Vitor Pereira’s side are heading to the south coast with every intention of registering their seventh league win of the campaign.
Pereira will have to plan without star attacker Matheus Cunha, who serves the second match of a three-game suspension, but his team performed to a reasonable standard in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Everton.
They have every reason to anticipate a better outcome against a Southampton team who have struggled to be competitive.
Saints have been beaten in 23 of 30 league fixtures and 14 of those reverses have been by more than one goal.
The basement boys have kept only two clean sheets and have been especially shambolic at home, with 37 goals conceded across just 13 league fixtures.
The south coast outfit are on a sequence of eight successive home league defeats and will be desperate to end that run as soon as possible to lift the mood of long-suffering supporters.
They showed some spirit in last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Liverpool by delivering a decent first-half performance and reached the break a goal to the good.
However, their good work was undone by the concession of two goals in a five-minute period as familiar defensive frailties came to the fore.
Juric’s challenge is to stop the rot and try to at least achieve a few positive results before the end of the campaign.
However, his team are desperately short of quality and confidence and look like ideal opponents for Wolves, who are a worthwhile wager at 21/20.
Jorgen Strand Larsen to score any time - 11/5
Wolves need other players to step up during Cunha’s suspension and their biggest goal threat on the south coast could be Norwegian striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who is having a decent first season in the Premier League.
Former Groningen and Celta Vigo frontman Strand Larsen has excellent movement and his xG (7.23) is slightly higher than Cunha’s (6.62).
The 25-year-old has contributed seven goals and looks an overpriced 11/5 shot to add to his tally.
Joao Gomes to be carded - 5/2
Wolves may need to be prepared for a physical approach from their desperate hosts, but they have the right players to handle the situation.
Pereira’s side know how to mix up their game and are prepared to make tactical fouls when the need arises.
Midfielder Joao Gomes is the main enforcer in their midfield and his tough tackling could lead to a ninth booking of the campaign.
