Sheffield United v Watford: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Watford’s start to the season has been electric, with the Hornets winning all five games across the Championship and EFL Cup.

Tom Cleverley’s side head to Sheffield United on Sunday aiming to make it six wins from six, but they are in for a tough test against a recently relegated team.

Chris Wilder is hoping that the transfer window closing brings some stability to a Sheffield United side who have the talent to mount a play-off challenge at least this term. Can they show that quality and end a three-game winless run across all competitions?

Sheffield United v Watford betting tips and predictions

Both teams to score - 8/11

Watford’s impressive start to the season has been comprehensive, with the Hornets netting 15 goals across their last five games. They’ve scored at least twice in each of their victories and at the other end, they’ve managed three clean sheets in their last four.

However, the fixture list has been kind to Cleverley, with each of their last four games coming at Vicarage Road. They crushed League Two MK Dons before victories against Championship strugglers Stoke, Derby and Plymouth.

Watford’s single away trip of the campaign saw them edge a five-goal thriller at Milwall. They let a 2-0 lead slip before netting late to take their opening match 3-2. Expect a similarly entertaining afternoon at Bramall Lane.

The Blades have scored five times across their first three Championship games, with their only clean sheet coming against Preston in Ryan Lowe’s final game in charge. Wilder’s side have played twice at home this term, with a 4-2 EFL Cup win over Wrexham and a 2-2 draw with QPR.

With Sheffield United having conceded in four successive games in all competitions, both teams to score appeals.

Kieffer Moore to score anytime - 13/8

While much has been made of Sheffield United’s troubles and their prospects following a dismal Premier League campaign, they’ve added proven EFL talent. Kieffer Moore looks like a fantastic signing, with the Welsh forward boasting a strong Championship track record.

Moore is already off the mark for the Blades and his physical threat should trouble the Hornets this weekend. Wilder is set to field some impressive midfield talent in support of Moore, with Gustavo Hamer, Callum O’Hare and new signing Jesurun Rak-Sakyi expected to start.

That talent should create chances against this Watford side and Moore is the man to provide the end product. Take him to score anytime at 13/8

2-2 Draw - 14/1

This should be a competitive clash, with Watford arguably playing above their level and Sheffield United yet to hit their stride. The Hornets will be full of confidence and their scoring run should continue, but the Blades provide a stronger threat than Cleverley’s men have faced so far.

Sheffield United have seen consecutive score draws in the Championship in matches they’ve been capable of winning. The same could happen on Sunday, with Wilder’s men struggling to find that ruthless streak to see off opponents.

Expect chances at both ends, with the Blades leaving openings and struggling to stamp their authority on matches. Given Watford’s red-hot start, it’s tough to get behind the hosts at odds-on, even if they are the stronger side on paper.

Both of the Blades’ home matches this season have seen them concede twice, while their recent run of draws suggests this one could finish level. With goals for both sides expected, a 2-2 final score is available at a tempting 14/1
