Sheffield United v Hull City: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Sheffield United will look to maintain their automatic promotion charge when they host Hull City at Bramall Lane in the Championship on Friday night.

Ruben Selles’s Tigers are sure to be respectful of their hosts, who have shrugged aside a two-point deduction and got themselves into the thick of the automatic promotion race.

The Blades consolidated second place with Tuesday’s 2-1 victory at Swansea and are preparing for the Hull game knowing that a win would take them to the top of the table, at least until Burnley’s clash at home to Leeds on Monday evening.

However, the need for points is just as pressing for Hull, who lost 2-1 at home to QPR on Tuesday and are positioned inside the drop zone.

Sheffield United v Hull City betting tips and predictions

Draw - 11/4

Sheffield United know that a win would take them to the top of the table, but they could be drawn into a tight encounter and may have to settle for a single point.

Few clubs are better at grinding out results than the Blades, who are on a three-game winning streak at a stage of the season when they are beset by injury problems.

United gaffer Chris Wilder has been open about the need for significant squad strengthening and may get his wish in the next seven days as the January transfer market starts to heat up.

However, his options for the Hull game look severely restricted, with Oliver Arblaster, Kieffer Moore, and Tom Davies among the injured contingent, and influential attacker Gus Hamer is about to commence a two-game suspension.

Wilder’s team triumphed 2-1 at Swansea on Tuesday despite being outclassed in the opening half and trailing 1-0 at the break.

The dynamic of the contest changed within five minutes of the second period thanks to a 47th-minute leveller from Rhian Brewster and a 50th-minute red card for Swans’ defender Harry Darling.

A successful night’s work was completed after Harrison Burrows dispatched a 68th-minute penalty, but it was a far from convincing performance from the South Yorkshire side, who struggled to play with any fluency.

United are on 58 points from 28 games, but they showed some vulnerability in South Wales and that will not be lost on Hull manager Selles, who wants to steer his team to safety as soon as possible.

Seles’s side succumbed 2-1 at home to QPR on Tuesday but they have looked decent on their recent travels, posting recent 1-0 wins over Blackburn and Millwall.

Earlier this month The Tigers showed their tenacity by coming from two goals down to draw 3-3 with Leeds, and they are attractively priced 11/4 shots to bag a point against the Blades.

Regan Slater to score anytime - 17/2

Regan Slater has netted only one Championship goal in 28 appearances this season, but he is one of the main threats for Selles’s side and can double his tally at Bramall Lane.

Slater has registered 34 shots and his danger to the Blades make him a worthwhile anytime goalscorer wager at 17/2.

Sydie Peck to be carded - 15/4

Sheffield United academy product Sydie Peck has made a major breakthrough this season, featuring in 24 Championship matches.

Peck is carrying a heavy responsibility due to the Blades’ midfield injury crisis and his tough-tacking style could contribute to a sixth caution of the campaign.
