Scotland v Switzerland Prediction, Tips and Odds: Kwadwo Duah to shine for Swiss

Scotland looked visibly shaken by their hammering at the hands of Germany and they return to Euro 2024 action on Wednesday evening when they take on Switzerland in Cologne.

Steve Clarke’s side suffered a 5-1 hammering at the hands of the tournament hosts in Munich on opening night and this game offers an opportunity to restore some pride in the shirt for the superb travelling support from the Tartan Army.

However, the Swiss should prove tough opposition, as they made light work of a Hungarian side who have proven a tough nut to crack in recent years.

The Scots will need to raise their game significantly to come out on top at the RheinEnergieStadion, but so soon after their hammering by the Germans it’s hard to see Scotland leaving Cologne smelling of roses.

Scotland v Switzerland betting tips and predictions

Switzerland to win and both teams to score - 10/3

Scotland’s lack of strike options is a well-documented problem, but they do have attack-minded players in midfield who can get on the scoresheet on Wednesday.

Both Scott McTominay and John McGinn were kept quiet by a quality German outfit, but they should have more time on the ball against the Swiss.

McTominay was Scotland’s leading goalscorer in qualifying and could be their best route to a goal in Cologne.

However, even if the Scots do get on the scoresheet, it’s hard to see them overcoming a Swiss side who will be brimming with confidence after their 3-1 success against Hungary last time out.

A tight encounter was expected in that opening game at the RheinEnergieStadion, but the Swiss always looked in control and ran out deserved winners.

Scotland’s hope of reaching a first knockout stage of the major tournament might well take another significant blow with a second defeat of the competition on Wednesday night.

Kwadwo Duah to score anytime - 11/4

One of the standout players for Switzerland against Hungary, Kwadwo Duah, is certainly a forward to look out for in the anytime goalscorer market here.

Duah originally had his opening goal ruled out for offside, but it was VAR to the rescue to show he actually timed his run to perfection.

Looking to make runs in off the last defender and having the speed to get in behind the backline means Duah is likely to be a problem for this Scottish defence, one that was exposed time and time again against Germany.

The 27-year-old Duah, who was born in England before moving to Switzerland at a young age, looks like he has the quality and the confidence to find the back of the net in Cologne again this week.

Anthony Ralston to be carded - 15/4

Nobody in the Scotland side covered themselves in glory against Germany and it was even tougher for those playing in defence.

Celtic defender Anthony Ralston had a tough night in Munich and the 25-year-old he was shown a yellow card in the second half against the tournament hosts.

With the likes of Duah and winger Ruben Vargas set to be running at this Scottish defence, there might well be a few yellow cards collected over the course of the 90 minutes.

It might well be the name of Ralston that finds its way into the referee’s book once again on Wednesday night and he’s good value to be booked for a second game running in this tournament.
