Scotland v Finland: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Scotland ended a run of seven games without a win by beating Gibraltar on Monday and they will hope they can build on that in their final Euros warm-up game against Finland at Hampden Park.

The Finns will not be heading to Germany but can be expected to go on the front foot after a 4-2 defeat in Portugal this week.

Scotland v Finland betting tips and predictions

Both teams to score - 11/10

Scotland head to Germany aiming to finally get through a group stage at a major men’s football tournament and there have been concerns that things are not going very well just days before they start their campaign.

While Steve Clarke’s side made headlines when they beat Spain at Hampden Park early in their qualification quest, results have tailed off this season and it will take more than a scrappy 2-0 win over Gibraltar, one of the weakest teams on the continent, to suggest they have turned the corner after seven games without a win.

The additional problem of losing forward Lyndon Dykes to injury on the eve of the Euros - Clarke described the QPR man as ‘irreplaceable’- means there is an urgent need for a confidence boost against Finland, who they face in Glasgow on Friday.

The Finns have failed to qualify for Germany but they can still provide Scotland with a tough test.

They displayed their attacking intent when losing 4-2 in Portugal earlier this week and with former Norwich striker Teemu Pukki scoring twice after entering the fray from the bench, the veteran should be hungry to see off the season in style with another goal.

Scotland’s defence was not penetrated in their opening three qualifiers against Cyprus, Spain and Georgia, but they could be vulnerable on this occasion and with a need to install some belief both within the team and on the terraces, the home side should be positive, so expect both teams to find the net.

Lawrence Shankland to score at any time - 21/10

Dykes’ absence leaves a big hole in Clarke’s goalscoring options and this looks an ideal chance for Lawrence Shankland to stake a claim for a starting berth against Germany.

The Hearts striker comes off a 31-goal season for the Jambos and will have seen 90 scoreless minutes against Gibraltar as a missed opportunity to stake his claim.

Indications are that he will be invited to make amends, and while he was unable to gain any clear-cut chances in that clash on the Algarve, he should snap any up that arrive against Finland, who have conceded four goals in each of their last two away games against Portugal and Wales, so take a chance on him finding the net.

Under 8.5 corners - 8/11

Skipper and left-back Andy Robertson provides one of Scotland’s most prominent attacking outlets, but don’t expect a great number of corners in this Hampden clash.

Clarke’s side forced 12 against Gibraltar, but that was a game they were expected to dominate against weak opposition so it provides a distorted picture.

There have been four occasions in the last season - admittedly in games against France, the Netherlands, Spain and England - where Scotland have forced fewer than three corners, so it seems unlikely there will be many flag-kicks, particularly if the action eases up in the closing stages with Scotland having one eye on the Germany game and the Finnish players looking forward to their holidays.
