Rosenborg v Manchester United Prediction: 13/10 hosts offer friendly value

Manchester United continue their preparations for the new Premier League season on Friday evening, when they face Norwegian outfit Rosenborg.

Michael Carrick is still without some of his key players due to post-World Cup breaks and United now come up against a team currently midway through their domestic season.

Rosenborg might be 10th in the Eliteserien table, but they go into this clash following comfortable back-to-back league wins.

Best Bet: Double Chance - Rosenborg or Draw @ 13/10

Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Wrexham in Helsinki would have been an eye-opener for both Carrick and the United supporters.

The Red Devils might have been without a number of their first-team squad, but they were expected to be too strong for their Championship opponents.

They now prepare to face a Rosenborg team that has been playing competitive football over the last two weeks, following a mid-season break in Norway.

Freyr Alexandersson's men are currently 18 points off the pace after 13 games, but they come into this match in good form, having been unbeaten in their last three matches.

A draw with second-place Bodo/Glimt was followed by back-to-back wins for Rosenborg, with a 3-0 home victory over Kristiansund followed by a 3-0 success at Start.

United could have a couple more senior players available for their second pre-season clash, but the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Lisandro Martinez are all still absent.

Alternative Bet: Over 3.5 goals @ 4/5

Scoring eight goals in their last three league games suggests Rosenborg have now found their feet in front of goal, having scored just seven in their opening 10 games.

One man to look out for is Algeria international striker Amin Chiakha, who has found the net three times in the last two matches.

The 20-year-old, currently on loan from FC Copenhagen, will pose a threat to a United backline that should include the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro.

Having drawn a blank against Wrexham, Carrick will be keen for his men to show much more going forward and that is likely to lead to chances at both ends.

One man who should be fresh heading into pre-season is Bryan Mbeumo, with the Cameroon forward having missed out on this summer’s World Cup.

The former Brentford man started out on the right against Wrexham, playing the first 45 minutes, but Carrick could be tempted to push him through the middle on Friday.

Rosenborg have been amongst the goals recently, scoring in their last four matches - which include a 2-1 friendly win over Molde.

Another blank would be deemed unacceptable for United, who registered just two shots on target in the defeat to Wrexham.

United scored more second half goals than any other Premier League team last season and have a stronger squad than their opponents, which should see them creating more after the break.

Carrick’s men scored 40 goals after half-time in the 2025/26 league campaign, while three of Rosenborg’s last six goals have come in the second period.
