Roma v Feyenoord betting tips and predictions

Feyenoord to qualify - 11/8

Feynoord will feel they missed a trick by failing to beat Roma in the first leg of their play-off round tie last week.

With no travelling fans in attendance and plenty of hostility from the home supporters, the Dutch powers would have expected to kick on when Igor Paixao fired them in front, only for Romelu Lukaku to make the score 1-1 and leave the tie on a knife-edge.

Now the boot is on the other foot with Feyenoord fans not allowed to enter the Stadio Olimpico, though their team should be trusted to do what’s required to make it through to the next round.

Certainly there was little between the teams in Rotterdam where Feyenoord, missing several key players, had the most shots and arguably should have won.

And their form is seriously impressive. The Eredivisie might not be a Big Five league but it’s studded with quality and Feyenoord have kept clean sheets in each of their last four league games.

Arne Slot’s men are unbeaten in 11 and three key men who didn’t start the first leg - right-back Lutsharel Geertruida, central midfielder Quinten Timber and 21-goal Santiago Gimenez - are fit again, and the Dutchmen will only be stronger for that.

Roma are a far sterner test under new boss Daniele de Rossi than they were during the latter part of Jose Mourinho’s stay in the Italian capital.

The Wolves have won four and lost just one of the six matches in which De Rossi has been in charge, the lone reverse a 4-2 defeat by Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

They come into the game on the back of a routine 3-0 triumph at Frosinone and are far more positive and fun to watch than they were under Mourinho. Feyenoord, though, will take some breaching and even Lukaku, Paulo Dybala and co can’t be guaranteed to brush aside this gutsy Dutch unit.

Yankuba Minteh Over 0.5 shots on target - 11/10

Newcastle loanee Yankuba Minteh is learning his trade nicely at Feyenoord where he is blossoming under Slot.

The left-footed right winger, signed by the Toon for under £7m from Danish club OB in the summer, is, at 19, one for the future on Tyneside, though very definitely one for the present at Feyenoord.

Minteh was a genuine threat against Roma in the first leg where he got off a couple of shots on Mile Svilar’s goal.

The teenager, just back from representing The Gambia at the Africa Cup of Nations, averages 1.9 shots per game for Feyenoord, for whom he has scored three times in the league.

Minteh also scored in his side’s 2-1 defeat at Celtic in their final Champions League group game in December and the 11/10 he manages a shot on target looks attractive.

Feyenoord under Slot will not sit back and they can ask plenty of questions of Roma, just as they did in the home game.

Feyenoord Corner Handicap +1 - 10/11

Total match corners are pitched at 8.5 in the Italian capital, low enough to make you think Feyenoord can cover a corners handicap of +1 at 10/11.

There were nine corners in the first game, five for Roma, though that wasn’t normal for the Italian side.

In Serie A this season they are averaging just 4.5 corners per game and in the Europa League are averaging 2.9.

In the Champions League, Feyenoord were pitched into a tricky group alongside Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Celtic yet managed to pile up 45 corners at 7.5 per game.
