Senegal were left reeling when knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations on penalties by Ivory Coast last summer, but they have reacted well to that and are the second-highest ranked African team by FIFA, sitting ahead of the likes of Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland.
They will be looking to continue their solid recent form when they visit the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to face the Republic of Ireland on Friday.

Best Bet: Senegal @ 23/20
Senegal are unbeaten within 90 minutes in their last 20 games in all competitions and it took a penalty shootout for them to fall short against Africa Cup of Nations hosts Ivory Coast last summer.
They won that tournament back in 2022 and made the knockout stages of the World Cup the same year before being beaten 3-0 by England.
The Lions of Teranga have a number of top-level Premier League players, including Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr, Everton's Iliman Ndiaye and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
In contrast, Ireland are going through a transitional period under new manager Heimir Hallgrimsson and, while their Nations League play-off performance against Bulgaria was solid, they have tended to fall short against the big sides in recent years and that may be the case again.
Joe Casey explains:
Senegal suffered a disappointing 0-0 draw with Sudan in the last international break, but that was without Iliman Ndiaye and Nicolas Jackson and with the return of their attacking talents they should be too strong for their hosts.
Under 2.5 goals
Nicolas Jackson to score at anytime
Senegal or draw double chance
Pays 13/2
Senegal's reputation is built upon their rock-solid defensive foundations, they have conceded just two goals in their last 12 matches and Ireland are not prolific, so under 2.5 goals looks like a solid pick.
Nicolas Jackson may not quite be the answer for Chelsea, but he has netted 30 times for the Blues and looks likely to start up front in Dublin.
The Lions of Teranga are unbeaten since 2023, so are well worth taking in the double chance market.

Joe Casey adds:
This Bet Builder is predicting a cagey affair between two teams who tend to be better defensively than they are going forward. Senegal are on a long unbeaten run and could grind out a result.

Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson initially trialled a three-man defence when taking over the job, but has since opted for a traditional 4-4-2 formation.
He prefers a more direct approach and tends to pick players more suited to that style of play, but Finn Azaz and Sammie Szmodics are unavailable through injury.
Expected Republic of Ireland line-up (4-4-2): Kelleher; O'Brien, Collins, O'Shea, Doherty; Ebosele, Knight, Smallbone, Brady; Ferguson, Parrott.
Senegal manager Pape Thiaw has tended to opt for either a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-2-3-1 system since taking over the Lions of Teranga.
Talisman Sadio Mane has ruled himself out of this match due to personal reasons, while Jackson and Ndiaye are back in the squad after missing the March internationals through injury.
Expected Senegal lineup (4-2-3-1): E Mendy; A Mendy, Koulibaly, Niakhate, Jakobs; Gana Gueye, P Sarr; I Sarr, Camara, Ndiaye; Jackson.
