They won that tournament back in 2022 and made the knockout stages of the World Cup the same year before being beaten 3-0 by England.

The Lions of Teranga have a number of top-level Premier League players, including Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr, Everton's Iliman Ndiaye and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

In contrast, Ireland are going through a transitional period under new manager Heimir Hallgrimsson and, while their Nations League play-off performance against Bulgaria was solid, they have tended to fall short against the big sides in recent years and that may be the case again.
