Real Madrid v Girona: Odds, predictions, team news & more

The top two in Spain go head to head on Saturday and while no one is shocked to see Real Madrid at the head of affairs, surprise package Girona refuse to go away and could go back to the summit with a win at the Bernabeu.

Their 3-0 loss to Los Blancos in September has been the only time Griona, who finished 10th last season, have been beaten in the entire campaign and this should be a match that does not disappoint.

The visitors will have been lifted by the news that star striker Artem Dovbyk should be fit after a knee injury and he could play a prominent part in proceedings, especially as injuries are likely to ensure Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will have to shuffle his defence.

That could have an effect on the chance of some players picking up a caution and we have a 15/2 three-element Bet Builder to take you through the action.

Real Madrid v Girona Bet Builder Predictions

  • Both teams to score – 8/13
  • Artem Dovbyk to score or assist – 11/10
  • Aurelien Tchaouameni to be booked – 11/4

Bet Builder – 15/2

Both teams to score - 8/13

Girona were held to a goalless draw at home to Real Sociedad in their last league outing, but they have demonstrated they can be positive on the road this season and the Catalans are capable of scoring in their visit to the capital.

They have failed to score in just one of their 10 away league games this season and demonstrated they are no respecters of reputation when they won 4-2 at fellow Catalans Barcelona two months ago.

Madrid have conceded 15 goals in their 23 league outings this season, but both teams have scored in four of their last six matches on their own patch.

With the prize of going back to the top of the table available to Girona, they should be positive, so we should expect both teams to find the net.

Artem Dovbyk to score or assist – 11/10

Girona’s task of getting on the scoresheet will be a lot easier if they are able to call upon Ukrainian forward Artem Dovbyk and hopes are high he should make a return to the line-up after missing last week’s draw with Real Sociedad.

He has scored 14 goals this season, including a hat-trick in the space of just six minutes in a 5-1 win over Sevilla last month, and can also turn provider having chalked up five assists in the league too.

Just the sight of him on the pitch would give his teammates a huge lift and he looks set to rise to the occasion in Girona’s biggest game of the campaign, so expect him to chalk up either a goal or an assist.

Aurelien Tchouameni to be booked – 11/4

Aurelien Tchouameni missed Real Madrid’s derby draw with Atletico after picking up a fifth yellow card and he could find himself back in the book again, especially if the midfielder is required to play in a less familiar central-defensive role.

He should easily adapt to it, but Dovbyk could cause plenty of problems and it is noticeable that Tchouameni has been cautioned in three of his last four club outings.

There is enough value in the price for him to be cautioned for it to be a good addition to our three-element Bet Builder selection.

Real Madrid Team News

Ancelotti will be hoping that Antonio Rudiger (thigh) and Vinicius Junior (neck) will be available after missing the draw with Atletico Madrid.

France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni should come back in after being suspended for the derby, but may have to fill in at the heart of the Madrid defence as Nacho has been ruled out.

Girona Team News

Defender Daley Blind and midfielder Yangel Herrera are both suspended but hopes are high that striker Artem Dovbyk will be fit as his knee injury seems not as serious as first feared.

However, Juan Carlos, David Lopez, Joel Roca and Toni Villa are all set to miss out for the visitors.

Real Madrid v Girona Stats

Both teams have scored in four of Real Madrid’s last six La Liga home matches.

Madrid have won nine of their last 11 La Liga home games.

Girona have lost just once in the league this season.

The visitors are the highest scorers in La Liga this term with 52 goals.
