Rangers v St Mirren Prediction: 15/2 win to ease pressure on McInnes

Rangers have yet to win any of their four matches of the 2026/27 season so far in what has been a horrific start for Derek McInnes.

The Light Blues opened their Premiership campaign with a 1-1 draw at Dundee United, before slipping to a dismal 2-1 loss to Hibs at Ibrox. Things got even worse in Europe, as they were knocked out of Europa League qualification by Polish outfit Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Despite surviving in the Premiership by the skin of their teeth last term, St Mirren still won the League Cup, beating Celtic 3-1 in the final, and they have began this season with two successive Premiership victories.

Rangers v St Mirren

Rangers v St Mirren Prediction

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 4/5

McInnes was brought in as Rangers manager in a bid to make the team hard to beat. While his football wasn’t always the most attractive at Hearts, his side was robust and difficult to break down.

That hasn’t been on show across his first four matches in charge of the Ibrox side, with six goals conceded in those games and only four scored in response.

St Mirren were banging in goals for fun in the Group Stage, notching four in each of their first three games, but unsurprisingly games have been a lot tighter in the Premiership. The Buddies have registered 2-0 and 1-0 wins in their first two matches to join Celtic as the only sides with perfect records.

The Buddies are playing with a fair degree of confidence and will cause Rangers problems at Ibrox, particularly with the hosts having failed to kleep a clean sheet under McInnes.

Six of the previous eight meetings between Rangers and St Mirren has featured both sides finding the back of the net and a similar outcome appeals.

Alternative Bet: Correct Score: Rangers 2-1 St Mirren @ 15/2

McInnes is already under massive pressure, despite only having taken charge for four competitive games, and a defeat this weekend will only intensify the spotlight.

However, he is a fighter and Rangers superior squad depth coupled with home advantage should see them chalk up a first win under the new mananger.

It wont be easy, far from it, but things have to change soon. St Mirren are playing with confidence, having scored 15 goals in their six competitive games, so they can certainly expose Rangers' defensive fragility.

However, McInnes' men should have enough quality to get the job done in what is expected to be a tough encounter, and a 2-1 correct scoreline is an attractive 15/2.

Rangers v St Mirren Bet Builder Tip

  • Rangers to win
  • Lawrence Shankland to score first for Rangers
  • Over 2 goals

    Pays 16/5

Although supporters are voicing their frustrations at this current Rangers side, a win on Sunday at Ibrox could be the catalyst for a strong run.

Rangers have won 17 of the last 23 matches between the two clubs, which includes a 2-1 win in the last meeting at Ibrox as well as a 1-0 in their most recent clash in March.

Lawrence Shankland finally got off the mark at his boyhood club, scoring a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Jagiellonia.

He will likely be deployed once again to lead the line and will be desperate to add another goal or two in a bid to get Rangers firing.

While Rangers are expected to prevail, this is unlikely to be a goal-fest, given the hosts' relative struggles in front of goal, and a goals range of 1-3 looks likely.
