Rangers should be able to get past Queen’s Park in this fifth-round tie, although the Championship side could get on the scoresheet in the process.
Gers have won the Scottish Cup 34 times, but only once in the last 15 seasons.
Callum Davidson, the Spiders manager, was St Johnstone boss when they famously did the cup double in 2021 so he knows how to produce a run in this competition. His side do look up against it in this clash however given their current form.
Rangers to win and both teams to score - 15/8
Rangers and Queen’s Park first played each other in March 1879, giving it claim to be one of the oldest derbies in world football.
The two have had divergent paths since then, with Queen’s Park only giving up their amateur status in 2019.
The Spiders have risen through the ranks rapidly in recent years however and are now on the edges of the playoff race in the Championship.
Their recent form will be a concern, they have lost five of their last seven league games and needed extra-time to get past East Kilbride in the Challenge Cup recently.
They take on Rangers for the first time since 2014, with the Light Blues looking to transfer some of their impressive European form into their domestic efforts.
The hosts have qualified automatically for the Europa League last 16 after finishing in the top eight in the group stage. However they are 13 points behind rivals and league leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race and have already lost the League Cup to those opponents.
They will be looking to end what has been a dismal run of success in this competition for a club of their size, winning just one Scottish Cup in the last 15 seasons, while the Bhoys have lifted eight in that time span.
They should be able to progress to the quarter-finals with a win over Queen’s Park, but they could get a fright along the way.
Both teams have scored in six of Rangers’ last nine games and the Spiders are no strangers to an end-to-end affair either, seven of their last nine matches have seen both teams find the net. Take a repeat of that in a home win.
Vaclav Cerny to score at anytime - 6/5
Vaclav Cerny has been one of Rangers real standout performers this season and he could be the key to breaking down this Queen’s Park defence.
The winger has 13 goals in all competitions this term and against a Spiders’ back line that has conceded at least twice in seven of their last nine outings, he could get plenty of joy in this match. Side with Cerny to get on the scoresheet.
Zak Rudden to score at anytime - 7/1
Zak Rudden began his career with Rangers but left before ever making a first-team appearance for the club.
He has since played for no less than seven teams and has landed at Queen’s Park for this season, where he leads the way with 11 goals in all competitions.
The 25-year-old is a physical presence up top and could disrupt a Rangers defence that have struggled at set pieces this season.
If anyone is to get on the scoresheet for the visitors, it may well be Rudden.
